High frequency of gastric cancer precursor lesions in patients with gastric xanthelasma: a prospective case-control study.

Objective: An association of gastric cancer and precursor lesions with gastric xanthelasma has frequently been reported. However, the incidence of both gastric xanthelasma and gastric cancer precursor lesions increases with age. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency and characteristics of atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia in patients with gastric xanthelasma compared to controls.

Conservative management of 154 patients with idiopathic granulomatous mastitis: Simple is better?

Purpose: Both the aetiology and treatment of idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) is controversial and unnecessary resections can lead to over-treatment in such a benign disease. Our aim was to report our experience in patients with IGM managed mainly with conservative methods, such as antibiotics, drainages and corticosteroids.

Material And Methods: Pathology database from 2008 to 2018 was reviewed retrospectively.

Synchronous pancreas and liver resection during CRS ± HIPEC. Results of 35 consecutive patients.

Aim: To evaluate the results of synchronous pancreas and liver resection in patients with metastatic carcinoma accompanied by peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) who underwent cytoreductive surgery (CRS)/hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).

Material And Methods: Overall, 35 patients with PC who underwent CRS/HIPEC at Umraniye Education and Research Hospital owing to different etiological causes were evaluated for operation procedure, age, sex, comorbid diseases, ASA score, systemic chemo/radiotherapy, duration of surgery, chemotherapy (CT) protocol applied in HIPEC, amount of bleeding, synchronous hepatobiliary resection interventions during operation and short/long-term mortality and morbidity.

Results: Fifteen patients were male and 20 were female.

Common functional networks in the mouse brain revealed by multi-centre resting-state fMRI analysis.

Preclinical applications of resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rsfMRI) offer the possibility to non-invasively probe whole-brain network dynamics and to investigate the determinants of altered network signatures observed in human studies. Mouse rsfMRI has been increasingly adopted by numerous laboratories worldwide. Here we describe a multi-centre comparison of 17 mouse rsfMRI datasets via a common image processing and analysis pipeline.

The prevalence of childhood psychopathology in Turkey: a cross-sectional multicenter nationwide study (EPICPAT-T).

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of childhood psychopathologies in Turkey.

Method: A nation-wide, randomly selected, representative population of 5830 children (6-13 years-old) enrolled as a 2nd,3rd or 4th grade student in 30 cities were evaluated for presence of a psychiatric or mental disorder by a Sociodemographic Form, Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School Age Children-Present and Lifetime Version (K-SADS-PL), and DSM-IV-Based Screening Scale for Disruptive Behavior Disorders in Children and Adolescents scales. Impairment criterion was assessed via a 3 point-Likert scale by the parent and the teacher independently.

Contributions of a high-fat diet to Alzheimer's disease-related decline: A longitudinal behavioural and structural neuroimaging study in mouse models.

Obesity is recognized as a significant risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Studies have supported that obesity accelerates AD-related pathophysiology and memory impairment in mouse models of AD. However, the nature of the brain structure-behaviour relationship mediating this acceleration remains unclear.

Early-in-life neuroanatomical and behavioural trajectories in a triple transgenic model of Alzheimer's disease.

Animal models of Alzheimer's disease (AD) can be used to determine the progressive neurodegeneration characteristics of AD in vivo using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Given the need for therapeutic interventions before the onset of frank AD, it is critical to examine if AD models demonstrate neuroanatomical remodeling in an equivalent preclinical phase. This manuscript examines the trajectories of brain and behavioural changes in the Triple transgenic mouse model (3xTg) prior to the development of AD-like behaviours.

Interdigital Pilonidal Sinus, Report of Two Cases.

Hairdresser's disease is an occupational acquired interdigital pilonidal sinus (IPS) of especially male barbers. Here, two cases of IPSs are reported. Both cases underwent surgical excision and primary closure.

Kappa opioid receptor antagonism and chronic antidepressant treatment have beneficial activities on social interactions and grooming deficits during heroin abstinence.

Addiction is a chronic brain disorder that progressively invades all aspects of personal life. Accordingly, addiction to opiates severely impairs interpersonal relationships, and the resulting social isolation strongly contributes to the severity and chronicity of the disease. Uncovering new therapeutic strategies that address this aspect of addiction is therefore of great clinical relevance.

HER-2 incidence in gastric cancer, its association with prognosis and clinicopathological parameters.

Objective: Human epidermal growth factor-2 (HER-2) overexpression has prognostic value in breast cancer. However, the significance of HER-2 positivity in gastric cancer is controversial. In this study, we investigated the frequency of overexpression of HER-2 and its relationship with clinicopathological findings and impact on survival in gastric cancer.

Successful treatment of an invasive fungal infection caused by Talaromyces sp. with voriconazole.

Invasive fungal infections (IFI) are on the rise due to increasing numbers of immunosuppressed and critically ill patients. A malignant-looking pulmonary nodule in an immunosuppressed patient may indeed be caused by a fungal organism. We report a patient, who was eventually diagnosed with an IFI caused by an agent of hyalohyphomycosis, Talaromyces sp.

The kappa opioid receptor: from addiction to depression, and back.

Comorbidity is a major issue in psychiatry that notably associates with more severe symptoms, longer illness duration, and higher service utilization. Therefore, identifying key clusters of comorbidity and exploring the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms represent important steps toward improving mental health care. In the present review, we focus on the frequent association between addiction and depression.

Dissociation of heroin-induced emotional dysfunction from psychomotor activation and physical dependence among inbred mouse strains.

Rationale: Opiate addiction is a brain disorder emerging through repeated intoxication and withdrawal episodes. Epidemiological studies also indicate that chronic exposure to opiates may lead in susceptible individuals to the emergence of depressive symptoms, strongly contributing to the severity and chronicity of addiction. We recently established a mouse model of heroin abstinence, characterized by the development of depressive-like behaviors following chronic heroin exposure.

Distinct mu, delta, and kappa opioid receptor mechanisms underlie low sociability and depressive-like behaviors during heroin abstinence.

Addiction is a chronic disorder involving recurring intoxication, withdrawal, and craving episodes. Escaping this vicious cycle requires maintenance of abstinence for extended periods of time and is a true challenge for addicted individuals. The emergence of depressive symptoms, including social withdrawal, is considered a main cause for relapse, but underlying mechanisms are poorly understood.

Antioxidant activities of rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis L.) extract, blackseed (Nigella sativa L.) essential oil, carnosic acid, rosmarinic acid and sesamol.

Antioxidant activities of three pure compounds: carnosic acid, rosmarinic acid and sesamol, as well as two plant extracts: rosemary extract and blackseed essential oil, were examined by applying DPPH and ABTS(+) radical-scavenging assays and the ferric thiocyanate test. All three test methods proved that rosemary extract had a higher antioxidant activity than blackseed essential oil. The order of antioxidant activity of pure compounds showed variations in different tests.

Kinetic analysis of the loss of some B-vitamins during the cooking of macaroni.

The kinetics of the losses of thiamin, niacinamide, and riboflavin were investigated during the cooking of macaroni at 50, 75, 80, 85, and 90 degrees C. Simultaneous analysis of the vitamins was achieved by HPLC using a mu-Bondapak column. The activation energies for the losses of thiamin, niacinamide, and riboflavin were determined as 25 kJ/mol, 22 kJ/mol, and 11 kJ/mol, respectively.
