Background: There has presumably been an increase in cases of sexual assault in Nigeria; however, accurate data on the characteristics of the survivors and perpetrators are not readily available in most cases.
Aim: To report the pattern and characteristics of sexual assault perpetrators and survivors managed at the Mirabel Centre, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja - a three-year review.

The placement of a constricting device around the penis is a urologic emergency. Though injuries from constricting penile devices are generally rare, they may be associated with serious complications. There is no standard modality for the removal of penile constricting devices and the management of the patient can therefore prove to be a formidable challenge to the urologist.

Background: Telecommunication applications have been introduced to improve the delivery of healthcare services in developed countries; however, public-funded healthcare systems in developing countries like Nigeria are mostly unfamiliar with the use of such technologies for improving healthcare access.
Methods: We proposed a SMS-based (text message) appointment scheduling system to consenting subjects at an outpatients' clinic and explored their willingness to utilize and pay for the service.
Background And Objectives: The optimal number of consecutive measurements for obtaining an average blood pressure (BP) reading in clinical practice is yet undefined by research. This study aimed to compare readings obtained from an average of 5 with averages of 2, 3, and 4, sequential measurements.
Subjects And Methods: Using an automated oscillometric device (BpTRU), BP measurement was conducted on 410 consenting adults attending a general outpatients clinic.
Objective: To elicit the explanatory models (EM) of hypertension among patients in a hospital-based primary care practice in Nigeria. Design. Semi-structured in-depth individual interviews and focus groups were conducted with 62 hypertensive patients.

This study examined the case-management of malaria in 135 febrile children attending an outpatient clinic in southwest Nigeria. Specifically, we examined the degree of concordance between physician's diagnosis of malaria, maternal perceptions of child febrile illness, and the results of malaria rapid diagnostic tests. The results indicate poor concordance in the diagnosis of malaria by physicians and the results of malaria RDTs (κ = 0.

The effect of the first office blood pressure reading (FBPR) on hypertension-related decisions was evaluated using blood pressure (BP) readings taken with the BpTRU BPM-100 device. BP readings were grouped into three pairs: (1) single readings (first and second readings), (2) computed average of three readings (one including and one excluding the first reading), and (3) computed average of five readings (one including and one excluding the first reading). Categorisation of BP readings under JNC-7 classes and distribution into < 140/90 and ≥ 140/90 mmHg groups were selected as parameters guiding hypertension-related decisions.
