Effect of Uncomplicated Diabetes Mellitus on Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Among COVID-19 Patients in Aseer Region, Saudi Arabia.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2; an ssRNA virus), which mainly affects the respiratory system but can also cause damage to other body systems. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a serious complication of COVID-19 that requires early recognition and comprehensive management. ARDS is a diffuse inflammatory process that causes diffuse alveolar damage in the lung.

Hepatitis G virus infection in Egyptian children with chronic renal failure (single centre study).

Background: Hepatitis G virus (HGV) is an RNA virus. It is mainly transmitted through exposure to contaminated blood although other routes may also exist. Patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) are at high risk of acquiring HGV because they require frequent blood transfusions.

Endothelin-1 and leptin as markers of intrauterine growth restriction.

Objective: To explore the role of endothelin-1 (ET-1) and leptin in intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) among preeclamptic and non-pre-eclamptic women.

Methods: Forty three patients with a pregnancy complicated by IUGR, 23 cases with severe pre-eclampsia and 20 cases of non-pre-eclamptic were enrolled. Control group comprised 15 cases with uncomplicated pregnancy.

Pretreatment cystatin C in children with malignancy: can it predict chemotherapy-induced glomerular filtration rate reduction during the induction phase?

Background: Monitoring of kidney function is essential during chemotherapy. Serum creatinine is of limited value in early detection of renal insufficiency. The cystatin C level has been proved to be a good marker for detection of mild reduction in glomerular filtration rate.
