Single incision tans-umbilical laparoscopic cholecystectomy using conventional laparoscopic instruments: initial experience of single institute.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) had been considered the gold standard treatment for symptomatic gall bladder (GB) stones. Single incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILC) was emerged as a less invasive alternative with better cosmesis and less post operative pain. This study evaluated the feasibility, safety, advantages and complications of SILC using the conventional laparoscopic instruments.

Cholecysto cholangiography versus cystic duct cholangiography in laparoscopic cholecystectomy: a prospective controlled randomized trial.

This study evaluated the safety and effectiveness of cholecysto-cholangiography (CCC), an extremely rapid and easy way of imaging the biliary tree during laparoscopic cholecystectomy and a viable alternative to cystic duct cholangiography in the era of minimal invasive surgery. Sixty patients with symptomatic gallbladder stones were studied in this series, 30 were evaluated for cholecysto-cholangiography and other 30 for transcystic-cholangiography. The success rate in cholecysto-cholangiography approached 80% with excellent quality films obtained.

Assessement of peritoneal adhesions due to starch granules of surgical glove powder an experimental study.

Introduction of foreign material into abdominal cavity during surgery causes irritation of peritoneum leading to postoperative (PO) adhesions. To assess and prevent PO adhesions, an experimental study was done to assess the caused by starch granules of the surgical glove powder and to avoid complications using the effect of normal saline and low molecular weight heparin (LMWH). Thirty Wister Albino male rats were subjected to laparotomy and ileocaecal abrasions were done mechanically to induce postoperative peritoneal adhesions.

The effect of portal vein branch plus heterochronous hepatic artery branch ligation on liver regeneration (experimental study).

The proliferative capacity of non-ligated liver lobes was designned experimental study on dogs in which portal vein and hepatic artery ligation was done either simultaneously or heterochronously. Dogs were divided into four groups: G I (control G); laparotomy was performed without vascular ligation, G II; dogs were subjected to ligation of the right lateral and median branches of portal vein alone, G III, dogs were subjected to hepatic artery branches ligation 48h after portal vein branches ligation. G IV, dogs were subjected to ligation of the same branches of the portal vein and hepatic artery simultaneously.

The effect of intravenous dextran 70 on enteric bacterial translocation after partial hepatectomy in rats.

This study evaluated the effect of partial hepatectomy on enteric bacterial translocation in rats and the preventive action of dextran 70. Sixty rats were divided into three equal groups of 20 animals each. GI were subjected to sham operation, while 70% hepatectomy was done in GII & GIII thirty minutes after saline and dextran 70 administration respectively.

New approach in surgical management of complicated umbilical hernia in the cirrhotic patient with ascites.

A total of 23 consecutive patients operated upon on emergency basis for the treatment of complicated umbilical hernias associated with liver cirrhosis and ascites. The hernia was complicated by strangulation in 11 and ascitic fluid leak in twelve of the patients. Patients were assigned randomly in two groups.

Conservative versus radical surgery for treatment of uncomplicated hepatic hydatid cysts.

This work evaluated both radical and conservative surgical approaches in the management of hepatic hydatid cyst. A total of 32 cases with uncomplicated hepatic hydatid cysts were divided into 2 groups according to the type of surgery. Patients in the first group (n=18) were subjected to conservative surgery in the form of endocystectomy, omentoplasty with or without drainage.
