COVID-19. An update for orthopedic surgeons.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected our world in a short period of time, and the orthopedic surgery practice was not an exclusion. Elective care was deferred in most health care facilities and emergency care was continued with strict precautions. With rapid progression of the pandemic, the response of the medical community is also rapidly changing in all aspects of delivering care.

Degenerative rotator cuff tears are associated with a low Omega-3 Index.

Background: The etiology of degenerative rotator cuff tears is multifactorial but chronic inflammation plays an important role in the pathogenesis. Some polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) can modulate inflammation and marine n-3 (Omega-3) PUFA have anti-inflammatory effects. We hypothesized that the Omega-3 Index is lower in patients with degenerative rotator cuff tears when compared to controls without rotator cuff tendinopathy.

A Shortcut to Arthroscopic Suprascapular Nerve Decompression at the Suprascapular Notch: Arthroscopic Landmarks and Surgical Technique.

Arthroscopic suprascapular nerve decompression at the suprascapular notch is a technically demanding surgical procedure with a steep learning curve. The aim of this Technical Note is to describe important pearls for an arthroscopic decompression of the suprascapular nerve relying on the palpation of the coracoclavicular ligaments before starting the arthroscopic visualization. This reduces the time and minimizes the resection of the surrounding fat.

Arthroscopic Reduction and Fixation of Tibial Spine Avulsion Fractures by a Stainless Steel Wiring Technique.

Several techniques of arthroscopic treatment of tibial spine avulsion fractures have been described in the literature. Long-term analysis of revision reverse shoulder arthroplasty using cemented long stems.

Background: Revision of failed shoulder arthroplasty is often associated with poor results and a high rate of complications. Significant humeral bone loss after removal of long stems poses a considerable surgical challenge. Therefore, the aim of our study was the evaluation of the clinical and radiologic outcome of cemented long-stem humeral components in revision reverse shoulder arthroplasty with a minimum 5 years' follow-up.
