Intradiscal thermal annuloplasty for the treatment of lumbar discogenic pain in patients with multilevel degenerative disc disease.

Symptomatic degenerative disc disease (DDD) may lead to significant deterioration of quality of life and increased disability. Intradiscal thermal annuloplasty (IDTA) is a minimally invasive treatment for painful DDD. We hypothesized that there may be an improvement in pain scores and the pain disability index (PDI) of patients who have multilevel DDD after IDTA.

Transurethral resection syndrome after bladder perforation.

The use of irrigating solutions is essential for distension of mucosal surfaces and visualization of the surgical field during resectoscopic resection of bladder tumors (TURBT). TURBT resection may be complicated with bladder perforation associated with intraperitoneal extravasation of irrigant fluid, which may rarely evolve in specific hydroelectrolyte imbalance characterized with hyponatremia, intravascular volume deficit, and renal impairment. We report four cases of TURBT syndrome during bladder surgery complicated by bladder perforation and discuss issues relevant to pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of this rare condition.

Horner's syndrome and trigeminal nerve palsy after lumbar epidural analgesia for labor and delivery.

This report highlights transient Horner's syndrome and trigeminal nerve palsy following labor epidural analgesia. A 29-year-old primigravida had a lumbar epidural catheter placed for analgesia in labor. The analgesia was maintained by infusion of a dilute local anesthetic/opioid mixture and turned off after achieving complete cervical dilation.
