Choosing materials of the most appropriate form and quantity is an important factor in the success of the surgical repair of nasal dorsum defects. In our study, bone wax, a hemostatic agent, was employed as a template in the correction of nasal dorsum defects. This inexpensive, pliable material is an effective template that helps to model the three-dimensional form of a defect and thus to plan and carry out the most suitable reconstruction.

Two of these markers are collagen type IV (Col IV), the collagenous component of basement membrane, and fibronectin (Fn), an adhesion protein in extracellular matrix. Others are matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), a type IV collagenase, tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), which has a high affinity for MMP-9, and 67-kd laminin receptor (67LR), which belongs to the non-integrin laminin binding receptor family.

Interventions in the maxillofacial region for either reconstructive or esthetic reasons may sometimes necessitate the augmentation of hard tissues. Although autogenous bone grafts are the first choice, donor site morbidity and difficulties in shaping make alloplastic implants another reliable alternative. Among the alloplastic implants, hydroxyapatite granules, with their high biocompatibility, are a good choice.

It is suggested that carditis may be a finding of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) or it may occur as a result of the gastritis caused by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection.

Recently DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) was shown to have a protective effect against development of fatty liver in rats. We aimed to investigate the association of nonalcoholic fatty liver and serum levels of DHEA, obesity, fat distribution and insulin resistance and to evaluate the effect of DHEA on fatty liver, obesity and insulin resistance.

Our aim was to evaluate the long-term therapeutic efficacy of the combination of interferon alpha-2b and thymosin-alpha1 compared with lamivudine plus interferon alpha-2b and interferon alpha-2b alone. Fifty-two patients with HbeAg-negative chronic hepatitis B were assigned to three different groups in a nonrandomized manner.

Scientific evidence suggests that presurgical treatment with dehydroepiandrosterone may protect the microvasculature against this damage, but the exact mechanism is not known. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of presurgical dehydroepiandrosterone treatment on microcirculatory hemodynamic parameters and the expression of adhesion molecules in a rat cremaster muscle flap model.

The objective of the present study was to determine the characteristics of functional dyspepsia in Western Turkey. We divided 900 patients with functional dyspepsia into three subgroups according to symptoms: ulcer-like (UL), 321 (35.

To test the effect of DHEA, we injected it into the epineurial chambers created to repair transected rat sciatic nerves. In 18 control rats, the nerve was transected and repaired without DHEA treatment.

A 57-year-old female patient presented with a history of bilateral nasal obstruction for 20 years. To the best of our knowledge, this is the second reported case of an osteochondroma of the nasal septum.

In group 1, the sciatic nerve was repaired using the conventional epineural technique by placing four sutures. In groups 2, 3, and 4, the epineural sleeve technique was combined with two sutures, fibrin glue, and two sutures with fibrin glue, respectively.

This procedure is performed for aesthetic or reconstructive purposes, but also offers the opportunity to examine all resected breast tissue histopathologically. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the histologic diagnoses of the reduction mammaplasty specimens retrospectively and to determine the incidence of breast lesions in otherwise asymptomatic and healthy women.

Objective: To present a patient with an epidermoid cyst of unusual location and size.
The epineural repair technique, which is the gold standard of peripheral nerve injuries, is still far from being ideal. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the turnover epineural sheath tube (TEST) when used over the primary nerve repair site to improve nerve regeneration. Twenty-five Wistar rats were divided into three groups and were operated.

The authors assessed the histologic alterations to dura mater and brain tissue associated with bioabsorbable plates. Fifteen Sprague-Dawley rats were given sham cranial surgery; an additional 30 underwent placement of 8 x 8-mm polylactic acid/poly-glycolic acid plates.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of warm ischemia time on neovascularization of axial-pattern flaps. Oblique adipomusculocutaneous groin island flaps based on the superficial epigastric vessels were raised on the right side of 21 Wistar rats, evaluated in three groups.

Although, one out of every eight women has a risk of developing breast cancer, the reported incidence of breast carcinoma detection in reduction mammaplasty materials is rather low. To our knowledge, specimen radiography, which is used for breast biopsies has not been used for the assessment of breast reduction materials. We investigated the applicability of specimen radiography and its potential benefits in detection of the breast pathologies, especially malignancies in reduction mammaplasty materials.

Adipose tissue, nerves, and vessels are the tissues that are usually preserved in vivo for future use or for the evaluation of results in experimental research. Limited volume and difficult conditions in such areas in animal models usually create disappointing results, because of the difficulty in distinguishing the experimental from the surrounding tissues; the insufficiency of the volume of space; and the lack of compliance in animals.
