Mucinous cystic neoplasm of the liver (MCN-L) is a rare tumor which accounts for less than 5% of all liver cysts. Although they are considered to be "benign cysts" radiologically and clinically because of their slow growth, they are considered as premalignant. We present two radiologically misdiagnosed cases that operated in a short time range, in order to increase awareness for these rare tumors.

Aims: The ELFN1, discovered in 2007, is a single-pass transmembrane protein. Studies conducted thus far to elucidate the function of the Elfn1 have been limited only to animal studies. These studies have reported that ELFN1 is a universal binding partner of metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) in the central nervous system and its functional deficiency has been associated with the pathogenesis of neurological and neuropsychiatric diseases.

The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression is considered to play an essential role in the pathogenesis of colorectal adenocarcinoma. This study assessed the expression and predictive/prognostic value of EGFR expression in pre-op biopsy and post-op resection specimens in patients receiving neoadjuvant radiotherapy/neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NRT/NCRT). Thirty-four consecutive patients were included in this study.

Background: The continuous advancement in medical and surgical techniques has led to a rise in the frequency of abdominal operations, subsequently increasing the incidence of intra-abdominal adhesions. Over 90% of laparotomies result in postoperative intra-abdominal adhesions. This study investigates the effect of a 5% boric acid solution on the development of intra-abdominal adhesions in rats, using an adhesion model.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients with schizophrenia (SCZ) are at a significantly higher risk of cardiovascular diseases due to factors such as increased carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and altered lipid profiles.
  • The study analyzed 51 SCZ patients and 55 healthy controls, revealing that SCZ patients had higher QT intervals, CIMT measurements, fasting triglycerides, and a lower level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL).
  • Results indicate a strong correlation between age, QT interval, and CIMT values in SCZ patients, emphasizing the importance of early detection of atherosclerosis to improve cardiovascular health outcomes.

Purpose: To assess the effectiveness of half peak systolic velocity deceleration time (hPSV-DT) in predicting neonatal outcomes in pregnant women with preeclampsia and to compare its usefulness with the conventional umbilical artery (UA) pulsatility index (PI) approach.

Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted among pregnant women with preeclampsia who were admitted to the Department of Perinatology, Ministry of Health Ankara City Hospital between 01 September 2022 and 01 January 2023 at 28-41 weeks gestational age. 55 patients were divided into two groups: the study group with UA hPSV-DT value < 5th percentile (n = 22) and the control group with UA hPSV-DT value ≥ 5th percentile (n = 33).

Background: We aimed to determine whether adding metformin to carboplatin treatment would reduce the damage to ovarian reserve associated with carboplatin use.

Methods: We included 35 adult female non-pregnant albino Wistar rats approximately three months old, weighing 220-310 g. The rats were divided into five groups of seven rats according to the treatment they received.

Background: This study compares frontal QRS-T angle (fQRS-T) in electrocardiogram (ECG) examinations of people with nasal septal deviation (NSD) with healthy controls (HC).

Methods: Eighty-two patients whom a radiologist with paranasal computed tomography definitively diagnosed with NSD were included in the study. 101 individuals without NSD were selected as HC.

Background: Sugammadex is a modified gamma-cyclodextrin that has been developed with the goal of reversing the steroidal neuromuscular blocking agents. The aim of the present study is to investigate the effects of different sugammadex doses on embryologic and neural tube development in an early-stage chick embryo model.

Methods: A total of 100 specific pathogen-free, fertilized domestic chicken eggs were randomly divided into five groups (n = 20, each), and placed in an automatic cycle incubator.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the link between restless legs syndrome (RLS) and increased cardiovascular disease risk through the analysis of electrocardiogram parameters.
  • Patients with RLS exhibited abnormal electrocardiogram readings, including a higher frontal QRS-T angle and altered blood cell counts compared to healthy controls.
  • The findings suggest that inflammatory markers like the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio are significantly elevated in RLS patients, indicating a potential increased risk for cardiovascular issues.

Objective: To examine the cervical sliding sign (CSS) alongside cervical length (CL) in twin pregnancies to predict preterm birth (PB).

Methods: Twin pregnancies (n = 37) with no known risk factor for PB were included in this prospective study. CSS was defined as the ultrasonographic finding in which the anterior lip of the cervix slides over the posterior lip with gentle and continuous pressure application.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine whether percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) and balloon kyphoplasty (BK) have any mid-term to long-term effects on the structural integrity of augmented vertebrae.

Methods: According to our hospital records, 351 patients underwent BK and PVP as a result of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures between 2010 and 2020. The demographic, surgical, and radiologic characteristics of the patients were analyzed retrospectively using the electronic hospital records and PACS (picture archiving and communication system).

  • The study investigates the link between autonomic instability in panic disorder patients and potential cardiovascular disease risk, focusing on the frontal QRS-T angle.
  • A total of 61 panic disorder patients and 73 healthy controls were analyzed, revealing that panic patients had a larger frontal QRS-T angle and different blood chemistry profiles compared to controls.
  • The findings suggest that the frontal QRS-T angle could be a useful indicator of cardiovascular risk in individuals with panic disorder, particularly as it correlates with the severity of the disorder and various inflammatory markers.

After the first face transplantation from woman to woman we performed in our clinic, it was aimed to eliminate the lack of knowledge about the subject in the literature by transferring our experiences and long-term results to the problems we had with the patient. A 20-year-old patient underwent partial osteomyocutaneous facial transplant (22nd facial transplant), which included 2 functional units of the face. The patient had no major problems in the early period and had a good aesthetic appearance.
