HO produced from water radiolysis is expected to play a significant role in radiation induced oxidative dissolution of spent nuclear fuel under the anoxic conditions of a deep geological repository if the safety-barriers fail and ground water reaches the fuel. Climate change with adverse impacts on the environment, economy, and society requires marketing to change current attitudes and behaviors towards sustainable production and consumption, and thus climate change is interrelated to marketing. However, no body of literature has comprehensively investigated the connections and relationships between climate change and marketing. This study examined such connections and relationships from a bibliometric approach using Web of Science and Scopus databases from 1992 to 2022.

Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is a highly heterogeneous group of monogenic and nonautoimmune diseases. Misdiagnosis of MODY is a widespread problem and about 5% of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and nearly 10% with type 1 diabetes mellitus may actually have MODY. Using next-generation DNA sequencing (NGS) to facilitate accurate diagnosis of MODY, this study investigated mutations in 13 MODY genes (, , , , , , , , , , , , and ).

Novel micro-scaffold matrices were designed based on poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and graphene oxide (GO) via electrospinning. Quercetin (Q), a natural flavonoid, was loaded into the fiber matrices in order to investigate the potential as a model drug for wound dressing applications.

Monogenic Childhood Diabetes: Dissecting Clinical Heterogeneity by Next-Generation Sequencing in Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young.

Diabetes is a common disorder with a heterogeneous clinical presentation and an enormous burden on health care worldwide. About 1-6% of patients with diabetes suffer from maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY), the most common form of monogenic diabetes with autosomal dominant inheritance. MODY is genetically and clinically heterogeneous and caused by genetic variations in pancreatic β-cell development and insulin secretion.

Ear as an alternative sampling site for GSR analysis following shotgun discharge.

Detection of GSR particles potentially indicates that a person fired a gun or somehow involved to a shooting event. GSR on the shooter's hand, face, and clothing may disappear within hours and with sweat secretion, washing or cleaning to remove evidences. Due to its anatomical properties, ears are relatively protected; therefore, we aimed to identify GSR particles on ears, to compare its anatomical parts of ears, and compare ears with common GSR sampling sites, based on firing frequency.

Investigation of DFNB4 SLC26A4 mutation in patients with enlarged vestibular aquaduct.

Objectives: Mutations of the SLC26A4 gene causing enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA) syndrome have not yet been fully elucidated. The study aimed to investigate SLC26A4 mutations in patients with EVA syndrome in the Turkish population. Identifying these mutations may play an essential role in determining the prognosis, follow-up, and management options of these patients.

A New Surgical Approach for Aortic Root Aneurysm and Small Aortic Annulus.

Reconstruction of the aortic root in patients with aortic root aneurysm and small aortic annulus is an intricate surgical procedure. Here, we describe our technique performed in 2 patients, that involved aortic root enlargement with grafting in conjunction with annular implantation of the composite graft with a prosthetic mechanical valve, which allowed us to avoid incompatibility. This novel method offers an alternative combined surgical approach for patients with small aortic annulus and aortic root aneurysm that preserves the structure of the valved conduit at the level of the aortic annulus.

Nanotoxicity: a challenge for future medicine.

Background/aim: Due to nanomaterials’ potential benefits for diagnosis and treatment, they are widely used in medical applications and personal care products. Interaction of nanomaterials, which are very small in size, with tissue, cell and microenvironment, can reveal harmful effects that cannot be created with chemically identical and larger counterparts in biological organisms. In this review, a challenge for future medicine, nanotoxicity of nanomaterials is discussed.

Omics era in forensic medicine: towards a new age.

Background/aim: Forensic medicine and sciences is a multidisciplinary branch of science, which frequently benefit from novel technologies. State of the art omics technologies have begun to be performed in forensic medicine and sciences, particularly in postmortem interval, intoxication, drugs of abuse, diagnosis of diseases and cause of death. This review aims to discuss the role and use of great omics (metabolomics, proteomics, genomics and transcriptomics) in forensic sciences, in detail.

A New Arterial Cannulation Technique: Arterial Cannulation through Aortic Anastomosis ("Kaplan" Technique).

We performed Bentall procedure on a 65-year-old male patient. Cardiopulmonary bypass was initiated via cannulation of the aneurysmatic segment of the aorta. Distal anastomosis was performed with the open technique under deep hypothermic circulatory arrest at 18°C.

Background: Hypothermia is a method of myocardial protection in cardiac surgery. This protection occurs by decreasing the metabolic demands, however, it creates susceptibility to various problems. In this study, we investigated patients operated on under normothermia (at the patient's own temperature) and hypothermia for postoperative differences.

Background: Blood transfusions are the most common type of tissue and organ transplantation. Perioperative and postoperative transfusions may cause morbidity and mortality and transfusion should based on only hematocrit values but also on hemodynamic and clinical parameters of the patient, which cannot be ignored.

Methods: A prospective study was conducted between January 2015 and October 2016 with adult patients undergoing elective open heart surgery.

Airway management in newborn with Klippel-Feil syndrome.

Klippel-Feil syndrome (KFS) has a classical triad that includes short neck, low hair line and restriction in neck motion and is among one of the congenital causes of difficult airway. Herein, we present a 26-day, 3300g newborn with KFS who was planned to be operated for correction of an intestinal obstruction. She had features of severe KFS.

Stent Embolism after Coronary Angiography: Case Report.

Endovascular interventions are widely performed of late; complications including stent embolism of arteries and veins, dislocation, or malposition of medical devices are frequently seen. Peripheral stent embolisms are generally asymptomatic, but when they cause acute ischemia or severe symptoms like claudication they must be removed. Stents can be removed not only with surgical techniques but also with endovascular maneuvers.

Curcumin and dexmedetomidine prevents oxidative stress and renal injury in hind limb ischemia/reperfusion injury in a rat model.

Curcumin and dexmedetomidine have been shown to have protective effects in ischemia-reperfusion injury on various organs. However, their protective effects on kidney tissue against ischemia-reperfusion injury remain unclear. We aimed to determine whether curcumin or dexmedetomidine prevents renal tissue from injury that was induced by hind limb ischemia-reperfusion in rats.

Effects of end tidal CO2 and venous CO2 levels on postoperative nausea and vomiting in paediatric patients.

Objective: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is a common complaint of paediatric surgical patients. The aim of this prospective study was to compare the effects of end tidal CO2 (PeCO2) and venous CO2 (PvCO2) in laryngeal mask (LMA) and face mask (FM) ventilation on the occurrence of PONV in paediatric patients with surgical interventions in the inguinal region. To date, no data regarding these parameters on PONV are available.

Co-existence of BRAF V600E Gene Mutation in Tumor and Non-tumoral Surrounding Tissues in Colorectal Cancer.

Background/aim: The murine sarcoma viral (V-Raf) oncogene homolog B (BRAF) V600E mutation, which increases protein kinase activity in BRAF-mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK) - extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK) (mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)) signaling, is found in 5-40% of all colorectal carcinoma cases. Proteins with this mutation are reported to be 130-fold more active, which results in induced proliferation, differentiation, cellular survival, and angiogenesis. The aim of the present study was to investigate tumor tissues, together with the surrounding non-tumoral tissues, for BRAF mutation presence, which may be an indicator for possible recurrence or prognosis as in the 'field carcinogenesis' model.
