Rifampin-accompanied antibiotic regimens in the treatment of prosthetic joint infections: a frequentist and Bayesian meta-analysis of current evidence.

Prosthetic joint infections cause serious morbidity and mortality among joint arthroplasty patients. Rifampin-accompanied antibiotic regimens are recommended for gram-positive infections. This study aimed to combine current evidence supporting the rifampin supplement to an effective antibiotic in the treatment of prosthetic joint infections.

Erector spinae plane block vs non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for severe renal colic pain: A pilot clinical feasibility study.

Aim: Ultrasound-guided plane blocks are increasingly used in the multi-modal analgesic concept for reducing opioid consumption. The present study was conducted to compare the analgesic effect of intravenous non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and erector spinae plane (ESP) block in renal colic patients.

Methods: In this prospective randomised study, 40 patients with renal colic pain were randomly assigned into two groups: Group NSAID (n = 20) received an intravenous infusion of 50 mg of dexketoprofen trometamol and Group ESP (n = 20) received ultrasound-guided ESP block with 30 ml 0.

Comparison of Ischemic Preconditioning and Systemic Piracetam for Prevention of Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Musculocutaneous Flaps.

Background:  Ischemia-reperfusion injury plays an important role in flap failure. Ischemic preconditioning technique is the only proven method for preventing ischemia-reperfusion injury, but it is not used widely in daily practice because of difficulties such as prolonging the operation time, need for surgical experience, and increasing the risk of complications. This study has been performed with the assumption that piracetam may be a simple and inexpensive alternative to the preconditioning technique due to its antioxidant, antiaggregant, rheological, anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic, cytoprotective, and immune modulating effects.

The clinical findings and outcomes of symptomatic pregnant women diagnosed with or suspected of having coronavirus disease 2019 in a tertiary pandemic hospital in Istanbul, Turkey.

Aim: To observe the clinical course of symptomatic pregnant women diagnosed with or suspected of having COVID-19.

Methods: This study analyzed the clinical and laboratory results of 27 patients with real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)-confirmed COVID-19 and 25 patients with a suspected COVID-19 diagnosis based on their symptoms and chest computed tomography (CT) findings. The patients' coagulation parameters and acute-phase reactants were evaluated both before and after treatment.

A novel approach to managing COVID-19 patients; results of lopinavir plus doxycycline cohort.

This manuscript aims to present a treatment algorithm we applied to manage COVID-19 patients admitted to our hospital. During the study period, 2043 patients with suspected COVID-19 were admitted to the emergency department. Molecular tests indicated that 475 of these patients tested positive for COVID-19.

Identification of Newcastle disease virus subgenotype VII.2 in wild birds in Turkey.

Background: Newcastle disease viruses (NDVs) can spread across continents via migratory birds. Hence, we investigated the frequency of NDV in both non-migratory and birds migrating on the Black Sea-Mediterranean flyway, in Istanbul, Turkey. Birds were trapped using nets placed around the Kucukcekmece lake Avcilar, Istanbul, in spring seasons of 2016 and 2018.

Comparison of ischemic preconditioning and BotulinumA Toxin injection for the prevention of ischemia-reperfusion injury in musculocutaneous flaps.

Background/aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the protective effect of Botulinum A toxin injection against ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-two Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into: control, ischemia-reperfusion, ischemic preconditioning, and botulinum groups. In all groups the musculocutaneous pedicle flap was occluded for 4 h, and then reperfused to induce ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Desmoplastic small round cell tumor of the kidney: a case report.

Background: Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) is a rare, aggressive neoplasm seen in children and young adults, usually manifested by involvement of abdominal serosa. Here, we present an unusual case of primary DSRCT of kidney.

Case Presentation: The patient was an 8-year-old girl with a large renal mass which was confused with primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) in the needle biopsy.

Characterisation of Fowl Adenovirus (FAdV-8b) Strain Concerning the Geographic Analysis and Pathological Lesions Associated with Inclusion Body Hepatitis in Broiler Flocks in Turkey.

Introduction: Fowl adenovirus can cause important diseases in chickens such as inclusion body hepatitis, hepatitis hydropericardium syndrome, and gizzard erosion and ulceration. Inclusion body hepatitis has been regularly reported from many countries. This is the first case report from Turkey, describing an outbreak of inclusion body hepatitis in broiler farms due to fowl adenovirus-8b (FAdV-8b).

Is the Perioperative Period No Longer a Problem for Adult Asthmatics under Control?-OPERA Study.

Objectives: Asthma is a global problem and chronic condition that persists through patient's entire life, during which the possibility of a surgical procedure is common. An accurate clinical and functional evaluation of respiratory functions and asthma control is needed in patients undergoing surgical procedures and requiring general anesthesia. The aim of this study was to disclose any possible relation between postoperative complications and some pre- and postoperative factors.

Centriolar satellites are dynamic, membraneless granules composed of over 200 proteins. They store, modify, and traffic centrosome and primary cilium proteins, and help to regulate both the biogenesis and some functions of centrosomes and cilium. In most cell types, satellites cluster around the perinuclear centrosome, but their integrity and cellular distribution are dynamically remodeled in response to different stimuli, such as cell cycle cues.

Association of Abl interactor 2, ABI2, with platelet/lymphocyte ratio in patients with renal cell carcinoma: A pilot study.

There are many unknown aspects of the pathogenesis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The aim of the current study was to define new RCC-related genes and measure their associations with RCC and clinical parameters, especially platelet/lymphocyte ratio which may be an independent predictor of prognosis in patients with RCC and other forms of cancer. Via in silico analysis upon RCC-specific deleted genes in chromosome 3, four possible ceRNAs (ATXN3, ABI2, GOLGB1 and SMAD2) were identified.

Chitosan is an indispensable biopolymer for use as a drug carrier thanks to its non-toxic, biodegradable, biocompatible, antimicrobial, and anti-oxidative nature. In previous studies, chitosan was first dissolved into weak acids and formed into gel, then used for carrying pharmaceutically active compounds such as nanoparticles, capsules, composites, and films. Using the produced chitosan gel after dissolving it in weak acids has advantages, such as ease of processing for loading the required amount of active substance and making the desired shape and size.
