Maternal age and number of children are risk factors for depressive disorders in non-perinatal women of reproductive age.

Objective: It remains unclear whether or not the vulnerability of depression in women of reproductive age is related with pregnancy or perinatal period. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of depressive disorders and related factors in a large sample of non-perinatal women of reproductive age.

Method: This study involved 589 women of reproductive age.

Effect of hemoglobin variability on mortality and some cardiovascular parameters in hemodialysis patients.

Background And Objectives: Most hemodialysis patients show hemoglobin fluctuations between low-normal and high levels. This hemoglobin variability may cause left ventricle hypertrophy and may increase mortality as well. Recently, many studies were designed to evaluate the effect of hemoglobin variability on mortality but results were conflicting.

The Correlation Between Psychiatric Disorders and Women's Lives.

Objective: Psychiatric disorders are important factors which affect the quality of life: employment rates, interpersonal and intrafamilial communications, marriage, child-bearing, parental skills and many other social - cognitive areas in different ways. Psychiatric disorders like schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder and depressive disorder have a negative impact on women's lives. This study has compared the relationship between these mental illnesses and the liabilities of women's lives.

Acquired capillary hemangioma with features of tufted angioma in the external auditory canal.

Tufted angiomas may occur in the head and neck region, but the external auditory canal is a previously undefined localization. There are only 19 cases of hemangiomas reported in this unique localization. However, this case is the first capillary hemangioma of the tufted variant being reported with a recurrence after 7 years after surgical excision in a 47-year-old male patient.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor: a rare tumor in the tongue.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor is composed of myofibroblast and inflammatory cell infiltration of the tissue. Malign transformation and recurrence rate of this tumor is rare and accepted as benign fibroinflammatory disease. The main etiology is unclear, but infection, trauma, and immunologic event are accused.

Cineangiographic intraoperative evaluation of venous grafts during coronary bypass surgery.

Background And Objective: Evaluation of graft patency is an important component of coronary bypass surgery. In the present study, intraoperative cineangiography was performed in a cardiovascular hybrid operating room to evaluate anastomosis quality and patency of coronary venous grafts.

Method: This prospective study evaluated coronary bypass grafts in 34 patients between January 2012 and June 2012.

How olfaction disorders can cause depression? The role of habenular degeneration.

The removal of bilateral olfactory bulbs (OBs) can result in serious behavioral, neurochemical, neuroendocrine, and neuroimmune alterations in depressed patients. However, there is little information on how olfactory bulbectomy (OBX) leads to depression. Habenular nuclei and their connections are important in the regulation of psychomotor and psychosocial behaviors through afferent impulses of the olfactory system.

Luteal serum BDNF and HSP70 levels in women with premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome characterized by psychological and somatic symptoms commencing in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle and concludes with menstrual bleeding. PMDD affects 3-8 % of premenopausal women and represents a significant public health problem especially in young women. Decreased brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels are associated with several mental disorders.

Chewing gum may be an effective complementary therapy in patients with mild to moderate depression.

Previous studies indicated that chewing gum may relieve stress and depression. There have, however, not been a significant number of studies on clinical usage of chewing gum. In the present study, 30 patients with mild to moderate depression were given either medication combined with chewing gum, or medication only, for 6 weeks.

Toward changing of the pathophysiologic basis of acute hydrocephalus after subarachnoid hemorrhage: a preliminary experimental study.

Background: Acute hydrocephalus (ventricular enlargement within 72 hours) is a common complication in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) secretion may be increased in the early phases of SAH, but it has not been proved definitively. We studied the histologic features of choroid plexus (CP) in the early and late phases of SAH.

Surgical removal of endometrioma decreases the NF-kB1 (p50/105) and NF-kB p65 (Rel A) expression in the eutopic endometrium during the implantation window.

We aimed to investigate whether the surgical removal of endometrioma alters the nuclear factor-kappa B1 (NF-kB1; p50/105) and NF-kB p65 (Rel A) expression in the eutopic endometrium of infertile women with endometrioma before and after laparoscopic removal of the ovarian endometrioma during the mid-secretory phase. Infertile women with endometrioma (n = 15) were enrolled. Infertile patients with nonendometriotic ovarian cyst (n = 10) and healthy fertile women (n = 10) were recruited as controls.

Cystic adrenal lymphangioma--report of two cases and review of the literature.

Cystic adrenal lymphangiomas are very rare, benign vascular lesions. They are usually found during a work up for abdominal pain or incidentally during imaging studies for an unrelated cause. We report two cases of cystic adrenal lymphangiomas.

Aims And Objectives: To validate a Turkish version of the Caring Dimensions Inventory in a group of Turkish nursing students.

Background: There are no studies about how nurses or nursing students perceive caring in nursing in Turkey. There is also no valid and reliable instrument in Turkey for evaluating caring in nursing.

Atypical presentation of skull metastasis from rectal adenocarcinoma as an initial symptom of recurrence.

Most malignant rectal tumors are histopathologically characterized as adenocarcinoma and generally metastasize to distant organs such as the lungs or the liver. Metastasis of rectal carcinomas to the skull is extremely rare. This study reports the initial diagnosis of rectal adenocarcinoma recurrence in a 65-year-old female with scalp metastasis.

Comparison of metabolic syndrome with growing epidemic syndrome Z in terms of risk factors and gender differences.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare metabolic syndrome with syndrome Z growing epidemic in terms of risk factors, demographic variables, and gender differences in our large cohort at southeastern area in Turkey.

Methods: Data of patients admitted to sleep clinic in University of Gaziantep from January 2006 to January 2011 were retrospectively evaluated. ATP III and JNC 7 were used for defining metabolic syndrome and hypertension.

CT findings related to exposure to polyvinyl chloride.

Background: Although some adverse health effects of exposure to polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are well known, there is limited evidence of its effects on the respiratory system.

Aims: To assess the pulmonary effects of exposure to PVC with high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT).

Methods: Workers and administrative staff of two PVC production plants completed questionnaires and went through pulmonary function testing and HRCT.

Therapeutic efficiency of Atosiban, an oxytocin receptor blocking agent in the treatment of experimental endometriosis.

Purpose: The current study investigated the potential therapeutic efficiency of atosiban, an oxytocin receptor antagonist, in an experimental endometriosis model.

Methods: Endometriosis was surgically induced in 35 female rats during estrus. Four weeks after this procedure, relaparotomy was performed.

Cognitive functions and serum levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor in patients with major depressive disorder.

Objective: We assessed major cognitive domains in major depressive disorder (MDD) compared to a healthy control group using neurocognitive tests. We hypothesized that lower serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels would be associated with poorer neurocognitive performance in patients with major depression and that these associations would be shown in healthy controls as well.

Method: Executive functions, sustaining and focusing of attention, memory functions, and verbal fluency were assessed in this study using the Trail-Making Test (TMT), Stroop Color Word Interference Test-TBAG Form (SCWT), Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA), Auditory Consonant Trigram test (ACTT), Digit Span subtest of the Wechsler Memory Scale (DST), Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT), and Controlled Oral Word Association Test (COWAT).

Panic disorder and subthreshold panic in the light of comorbidity: a follow-up study.

Especially in the presence of agoraphobia and comorbid conditions, panic disorder causes significant impairment in life quality. Although there are several studies about epidemiology and clinical features, subthreshold symptoms and courses of comorbidity have not been studied sufficiently in panic disorder. The current study assessed the courses of panic disorder and subthreshold panic symptoms in consideration of the major and subthreshold comorbid conditions.

[Blastoschizomyces capitatus fungemia: three case reports and review of the literature].

Blastoschizomyces capitatus is a rare fungal pathogen that may lead to fatal infections especially in immunosuppressive individuals. In this report, three cases of B.capitatus were presented.

c-Kit proto-oncogene expression in endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial cancer.

Purpose: To evaluate the expression of c-kit (CD117) in endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial cancer.

Methods: Expression of c-kit in 10 normal endometrium, 18 simple endometrial hyperplasia, 16 complex endometrial hyperplasia (10 cases with atypia and 6 cases without atypia), and 6 endometrial cancer were investigated by immunohistochemistry.

Results: c-Kit expression decreased as the lesion progressed to endometrial cancer.

Fulminant hepatitis A infection in second trimester of pregnancy requiring living-donor liver transplantation.

We present an 18-year-old pregnant woman who was referred to our emergency clinic as a case of acute hepatic failure and hepatic encephalopathy. Laboratory tests showed abnormal liver function tests and serological workup was consistent with acute hepatitis A infection. Ultrasonography revealed a single live fetus with fetal biometry compatible with 18 gestational weeks.
