Objective: Resistance to thyroid hormone beta (RTHβ) is a rare disorder characterized by a fairly heterogeneous clinical presentation due to varying degrees of tissue response to thyroid hormone. The study aimed to evaluate the clinical, laboratory features and genotype-phenotype relationship of Turkish patients with RTHβ.

Methods: Patients who underwent a THRB gene analysis between September 2019 and September 2023 were retrospectively reviewed.

  • - This study evaluated the effectiveness of plasma and urinary metanephrines as diagnostic tools for adrenal lesions in 152 patients, highlighting their importance in a multidisciplinary medical setting.
  • - A variety of adrenal conditions were identified among patients, including pheochromocytoma and adrenocortical carcinoma, with 94 patients undergoing surgery.
  • - Urinary fractionated metanephrine was found to be the most sensitive test for diagnosing pheochromocytoma (90%), while plasma free normetanephrine was the most specific (91.4%), demonstrating a significant correlation between the plasma and urinary tests.

Background: Transferring the intricate laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) technique poses a considerable challenge for novice surgeons. Fellowship programs, typically lasting three to twelve months, remain the primary avenue for acquiring laparoscopic skills. This study proposes that residency-based laparoscopy training confers distinct advantages over fellowship programs during the initial stages of LRP.

This study aims forward to explain the effect of freight transportation on environmental pollution and to investigate the role played by the usage rates of road and railway transportation modes in this relationship. As an auxiliary problem of the research, it was tried to determine whether there is a threshold value for these types of transportation and what consequences will arise in terms of environmental pollution below and above this threshold. For this purpose, the data of OECD countries for the period 2000-2018 were analyzed with the PSTR method.

Individuals revise their beliefs based on the evidential strength of others' claims. Unlike English, in languages such as Turkish evidential marking is obligatory; speakers must express whether their claims are based on direct observation or not. We investigated whether Turkish- and English-speaking 3- and 5-year-olds (N = 146; 72 girls; based in Turkey and Canada) differed in their belief revision after hearing claims based on direct observation, indirect observation, or inference.

Aim: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a rhythm disorder characterized by very rapid and disorganized atrial-derived electrical activations with uncoordinated atrial contractions. Very short periods of AF-like activity (micro-AF) may be precursors of undetected, silent episodes of atrial fibrillation. Here, we examined the relationship between natriuretic peptide concentrations and echocardiography findings in patients with micro-AF.

  • The study investigates the relationship between endocan levels and coronary artery disease (CAD) and coronary slow flow (CSF) in a group of 169 subjects undergoing coronary angiography.
  • Both CAD and CSF patients exhibited significantly higher endocan levels compared to a control group, with similar levels between the two conditions, suggesting endocan's role in these diseases.
  • Endocan levels, particularly when exceeding 450 pg/mL, are key predictors for both CAD and CSF, highlighting its potential as an important biomarker in these cardiovascular conditions.

Objective: This study examines the relationship between two frailty screening tools and 90-day all-cause mortality in geriatric inpatients.

Methods: The study included patients aged ≥60 years who were admitted to the geriatrics unit of a university hospital between June 2021 and August 2022 and whose mortality status and duration of hospitalization data were obtained from the Health Ministry System. During hospitalization, the patients were screened using two different frailty scales: the Simpler Modified Fried Frailty Scale (sMFS) and the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS).

Introduction: Laryngotracheal stenosis encompasses a diverse range of diagnoses, encompassing complete or partial narrowing of various subgroups of the upper airways, including the laryngeal structures and trachea, due to pathological scar formation. This increasingly prevalent pathology is of significant importance due to its potential for life-threatening consequences. Among the defined treatment modalities, tracheal resection and end-to-side anastomosis remain a valuable therapeutic alternative in appropriate indications.

Background: Clinical laboratory tests are being evaluated with reference intervals (RI). Therefore, it is important that each laboratory determines and classifies its own reliable RI for each test to ensure an accurate and effective interpretation. The proposed method for determining RI is the "direct" approach, but it is a difficult, troublesome, time-consuming, and expensive method.

Hematuria is the most common symptom of bladder cancer (BCa). It is well-known that the frequency of hematuria increases with the use of antithrombotic drugs (ATDs). We designed our study with the hypothesis that patients using antithrombotic drugs who present with the complaint of hematuria and are subsequently diagnosed with BCa may receive an earlier diagnosis, leading to lower tumor grades and stages.
