No prior study to date has examined the comparisons of the structures that have been implicated in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in patients with refractory OCD, those who are treatment-responded and healthy controls concurrently. Therefore, we performed a volumetric MRI study in patients with refractory OCD, those with treatment responding OCD and healthy controls. Morphometric MRI was used to compare in thirty patients with OCD and ten healthy controls.

We utilized a newborn rat model of hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) that resembles human necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) to investigate the effects of omeprazole and/or gentamicin on the formation of free oxygen radicals (FOR) and bowel histopathology. For H/R, 1-day-old rats were placed into a chamber of 100% CO2 for 5 min, then they were reoxygenized for the next 5 min. The rats (n = 70) were divided into seven groups: group 1 (control), group 2 (H/R), group 3 (omeprazole), group 4 (H/R + omeprazole), group 5 (gentamicin), group 6 (H/R + gentamicin), group 7 (H/R + omeprazole + gentamicin).

In the late-stage idiopathic Parkinson's disease (IDP), comorbid conditions such as depression and drug-induced psychosis may be observed. A patient with Parkinson disease, major depression, and paranoid psychosis who developed neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) as the result of the sudden termination of high-dose (1200 mg/d) levodopa treatment is presented in this report. Because the patient did not respond to other treatment modalities, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) was applied, and a rapid improvement was observed both in the patient's NMS and also in Parkinson's and psychiatric symptoms, with no additional side effects other than transient post-ictal confusions.

Purpose: To compare the optical coherence tomographic (OCT) features with clinical and fluorescein angiographic (FA) findings in patients with diabetic retinopathy.

Methods: In a retrospective study ophthalmologic examination together with FA and OCT images were obtained from 195 eyes of 110 patients with different stages of diabetic retinopathy and OCT images were obtained from 40 eyes of 20 control subjects. Fluorescein leakage characteristics were organized into five groups: no leakage (1), focal (2), diffuse (3), combined focal+diffuse leakage (4) and cystoid (5).

Animal studies and studies using human ovarian xenografts in immunodeficient mice have shown that ovarian transplantation is feasible. In this manuscript, we present the first and limited experience with ovarian tissue cryopreservation and transplantation in the human. Despite the progress, more basic studies are needed to improve the survival of primordial follicles during and after the cryopreservation process.
