Introduction: The positive effect of varicocelectomy on sperm parameters (sperm morphology, concentration, motility) and fertility and pregnancy rates has been proven. Although various techniques have been defined for varicocele treatment, varicocelectomy with the pulling technique was first defined in 2017. The aim of this retrospective study is to compare the effectiveness and reliability of subinguinal microsurgical varicocelectomy with the "pulling" technique and conventional subinguinal varicocelectomy.

Recovery strategies for end-of-life (EoL) and end-of-use (EoU) products, such as reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling, present opportunities to enhance profitability and lower emissions while fostering new business prospects. However, significant uncertainties and stochasticity affect the quantity and quality of returned waste tires, costs associated with used tires and the retreading process, and the selling prices driven by second-hand market dynamics. This paper investigates the economic and environmental performance of a closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) for waste tire retreading and recycling considering the impact of these uncertainties using a Monte Carlo simulation-based methodology.

Subcellular compartmentalization of metabolic enzymes establishes a unique metabolic environment that elicits specific cellular functions. Indeed, the nuclear translocation of certain metabolic enzymes is required for epigenetic regulation and gene expression control. Here, we show that the nuclear localization of the mitochondrial enzyme methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase 2 (MTHFD2) ensures mitosis progression.

In focused ion beam (FIB) tomography, a combination of FIB with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) is used for collecting a series of planar images of the microstructure of nanoporous materials. These planar images serve as the basis for reconstructing the three-dimensional microstructure through segmentation algorithms. However, the assumption of a constant distance between consecutively imaged sections is generally invalid due to random variations in the FIB milling process.

  • Magnesium-based implants are gaining popularity in orthopedic applications due to their ability to degrade and release bioactive Mg ions that influence mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), which are crucial for bone regeneration.
  • The study utilized gene regulatory network analysis with time-series proteomics data to explore how MSCs respond to Mg ions over a 21-day period.
  • Key proteins and interactions were identified, including MYL1, MDH2, GLS, and TRIM28, which play significant roles in MSCs' molecular response to Mg ions, paving the way for advancements in orthopedic biomaterials.

  • - This multi-institutional study aimed to investigate the prognostic impact of histomorphological subtyping in patients with nonmetastatic papillary renal cell carcinoma (papRCC) who underwent curative surgery, involving 1,086 patients categorized into two subtypes.
  • - Results showed that patients with type 2 papRCC were generally older, had larger tumors, and exhibited poorer survival rates, with lower 5-year recurrence-free survival (RFS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), and overall survival (OS) than type 1 patients.
  • - While type 2 was a significant predictor for RFS and CSS, it had no significant impact on OS, highlighting the need for further understanding of how these

In this study, we proposed to investigate the response of an electrochemical-based immunosensor via nanoliposomes carrying the SARS-CoV-2 Spike-S1 protein. In this regard, we prepared RNA encapsulated nanoliposome functionalized with a specific SARS-CoV-2 Spike-S1 protein as a SARS-CoV-2 model. Then, this new nanoliposome mimicking SARS-CoV-2 was used as the bio-recognizing agent of an immunosensor developed to detect the SARS-CoV-2 within the scope of the study.

This study aimed to investigate environmental mastitis causing bacteria counts in the teat end, somatic cell counts (SCC) of milk samples, cleanliness scores and behavior of cows kept on concrete and rubber mat floorings. For this purpose, 19 Holstein-Friesian dairy cows were allocated into concrete and rubber mat groups. Swab samples were taken from the teat ends to determine the bacterial counts causing environmental mastitis.
