This study aimed to investigate the predictive role of grip strength on bone mineral density (BMD) of different sites in males. Two hundred thirty-four male patients were included in the study. BMD of lumbar spine, femoral neck, proximal radius-ulna (PRU) and distal radius-ulna (DRU) sites were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and grip strength by using a hand dynamometer.

Brucellar spondylodiscitis: a case report.

Brucellosis is a common zoonosis which still remains as a major health problem in certain parts of the world. Osteoarticular involvement is the most frequent complication of brucellosis, in which the diagnosis of brucellar spondylodiscitis is often difficult since the clinical presentation may be obscured by many other conditions. Herein, we reported an uncommon case of spondylodiscitis due to brucella in an elderly male who had diabetes mellitus and degenerative spinal disease as underlying conditions.

Parental attitudes and ego identity status of Turkish adolescents.

This study investigated the differences among 403 middle adolescents regarding Marcia's four identity statuses in terms of perceived parental attitudes and gender. The Extended Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status (EOMEIS-2) and Parental Education Scale (PAS) were used to collect data. Results showed that children of authoritative parents scored significantly higher on identity foreclosure than those of neglectful parents.

Relationship between sexual dysfunction and psychiatric status in premenopausal women with fibromyalgia.

Objectives: To evaluate the possible relationship between the sexual and psychiatric status of premenopausal female patients with fibromyalgia compared with healthy controls.

Methods: A total of 48 female patients with fibromyalgia and 38 age-matched healthy controls were enrolled in the study. All the subjects were asked to complete the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) for sexual status and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) for psychiatric assessment.

Plasma leptin concentrations in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis.

Familial Mediterranean fever and ankylosing spondylitis in a patient with juvenile idiopathic arthritis: A case report and review of the literature.

The association of familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) or ankylosing spondylitis (AS), most commonly with negative HLA-B27 antigen, was described in several previous reports, although the pathogenic mechanism of this association still remains unknown. Herein we report an uncommon association of FMF with HLA-B27 positive AS as an occasional coincidence in a patient who had been diagnosed as having JIA 23 years previously.

Relationship between serum sex steroids and Aging Male Symptoms score and International Index of Erectile Function.

Objectives: To determine the relationship between the total and subscale scores of the Aging Male Symptoms (AMS) and International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) questionnaires, age, and serum sex steroids levels.

Methods: A total of 348 patients enrolled in the study answered the AMS and IIEF questionnaires. Hormonal analysis, including total testosterone, free testosterone (FT), estradiol (E2), and dehydroepiandrosterone-sulphate (DHEA-S) measurement, were performed.

Endogenous sex steroids and bone mineral density in healthy men.

Objective: To evaluate the role of endogenous sex steroids on bone mineral density (BMD) in healthy Turkish men.

Methods: Serum total testosterone (TT), free testosterone (FT), dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate and estradiol levels were assayed in 174 healthy men of 240 volunteers, aged 22-76 years. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry was used to measure the BMD (g/cm(2)) of lumbar spine, femoral neck and non-dominant proximal and distal radius-ulna sites.

Paratesticular metastasis from Wilms tumor associated with a hydrocele.

Metastatic sites other than the lungs, lymph nodes, and liver are unusual for Wilms tumor (WT). Intra-scrotal metastasis is very rare. We report a 3-year-old boy with stage IIA WT, who experienced paratesticular metastasis 2 months after surgery for an abdominal recurrence.

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation versus baclofen in spasticity: clinical and electrophysiologic comparison.

Objectives: We aimed to compare the symptoms and signs of patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) with and without a history of diurnal teeth clenching.

Patients And Methods: The study was designed prospectively and included 34 patients with a diagnosis of bilateral temporomandibular joint pain and/or dysfunction. Prevention of mobile phone induced skin tissue changes by melatonin in rat: an experimental study.

Most of the mobile phones in Turkey emit 900 MHz radiation which is mainly absorbed by the skin and, to a lesser extent, muscle. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects the 900 MHz electromagnetic irradiation emitted by these devices on the induction of histopathologic changes in skin and the effect of melatonin (Mel) on any of these changes. Thirty male Wistar-Albino rats were used in the study.

Extensive erosive arthropathy in a patient with Behçet's disease: case report.

Behçet's disease (BD) is a multisystem disease with typically nondeforming articular manifestations. Erosive arthropathy is an uncommon condition in patients with BD. We report herein an unusual case of long-standing BD with extensive erosive arthropathy radiologically mimicking psoriatic arthritis.

Diagnostic precision of ultrasonography in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome.

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic value of ultrasonography in patients with electrophysiologically confirmed carpal tunnel syndrome.

Design: A prospective ultrasonographic study of 35 wrists with electrophysiologically confirmed carpal tunnel syndrome and of 40 normal wrists. Receiver-operating-characteristics curves for the ultrasonographic measurements of median nerve were plotted to identify the most optimal cutoff values.

Effects of chronic ingestion of sodium fluoride on myocardium in a second generation of rats.

Possible effects of long term exposure (6 months) to sodium fluoride (NaF) through drinking water on the morphology and biochemistry of myocardial tissue in second generation adult male rats were investigated. Wistar strain female and male rats were reared until the second generation of rats obtained, during which they were given 1, 10, 50 and 100 mg/L NaF in drinking water. Of the second generation, 28 male rats were divided into four groups and had the same treatment.

Ankylosing spondylitis and multiple sclerosis in an HLA-B27 negative patient.

A 41-year-old man presented with vertigo and gait disturbance. He gave a 10-year history of definite ankylosing spondylitis with low back pain, limitation of spinal mobility, decreased chest expansion and radiological evidence of bilateral sacroiliitis. The vertigo attacks started 3 years before and he had insidious evolution of bilateral leg weakness, increased muscle tension and walking disability during the past 2 years.

Multifocal osteoarticular tuberculosis: a case report.

Dynamics of mast cells in lymph node following antigenic stimulation.

Dynamics of mast cells in rat cervical lymph nodes were examined using conventional histological techniques after injection of Salmonella paratyphi B-H antigen. There was no significant change in the number of mast cells at sixth hour and on the first day of stimulation compared with the controls. The number of mast cells was increased in all lymph node compartments on the second day of stimulation, which continued in the following 3 days.
