The R-carvedilol enantiomer, present in the racemic mixture of the chiral drug carvedilol, does not bind to the β-adrenergic receptors, but exhibits skin cancer preventive activity. The current study evaluated the effects of the β-blocker carvedilol on benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P) and its active metabolite benzo(a)pyrene diol epoxide (BPDE)-induced lung toxicity, inflammation and carcinogenesis and explored the potential mechanisms. Carvedilol blocked the BPDE-induced malignant transformation of human bronchial epithelial cells BEAS-2B. In the present study, we investigated the effect of HD treatment on N,N'-dimethylhydrazine (DMH) induced oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis and goblet cell disintegration in the colon of Wistar rats.
