Background: The aim of this study was to compare outcomes in patients who received intravenous tranexamic acid just before and after total knee arthroplasty with or without drains and to analyze whether there is any difference in terms of blood loss.
Material And Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data of patients undergoing unilateral total knee arthroplasty. Between March 2017 and March 2019, 97 knees of 94 consecutive patients with osteoarthritis were divided into two groups (Group 1, with drain; and 2, without drain).

Incidence varies widely around the world but bimodal incidence graphs show that in some populations a disproporionate number of cases occur in late childhood. Children with nasopharyngeal carcinoma almost always have the undifferentiated variant of the disease, which is associated with advanced locoregional spread and distant metastases.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe observation that p53 alterations are early events in the tumorigenesis of head and neck cancer and the association with cigarette smoking have prompted us to search for p53 overexpression in the oral mucosa of heavy smokers who have no overt precancerous or cancerous lesions. Formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections, obtained from oral mucosa of 30 otherwise healthy heavy smokers, were evaluated for tobacco related changes, and immunostained with a mouse monoclonal antibody p53-DO7 for p53 immunoreactivity. Histopathological evaluation revealed hyperplastic changes in twenty eight samples (93%), eight of which also demonstrated dysplastic changes.

The tumors comprised of three medulloblastomas, two primitive neuroectodermal tumors, one ependymoblastoma and four anaplastic ependymomas. Treatment involved surgery (two total resection, six subtotal and two biopsy only) followed by conventional radiotherapy (primary tumor: 50-54 Gy, whole brain: 30-45 Gy, and spinal axis: 25-36 Gy).
