Article Synopsis
  • * The research found that ADMA and SDMA levels were negatively correlated with labor duration in women with preeclampsia, meaning higher levels were linked to shorter labor.
  • * These results suggest that the influence of arginines, rather than inflammation, may play a key role in the shorter labor duration observed in women experiencing preeclampsia.

The pharmacokinetics in patients dosed with the nanoparticle-based MRI contrast agent SN132D is explained by a size dependent clearance mechanism and this behavior was modeled numerically. Blood samples from 14 patients were analyzed for silicon (a component of the nanoparticle) by ICP-OES. The pharmacokinetic model has only one free parameter and relies on a measured size distribution of the contrast agent and well-established properties of the renal and cardiovascular systems.

Background: Emerging evidence shows that long-term exposure to air pollution, road traffic noise, and greenness can each be associated with cardiovascular disease, but only few studies combined these exposures. In this study, we assessed associations of multiple environmental exposures and incidence of myocardial infarction using annual time-varying predictors.

Materials And Methods: In a population-based cohort of 20,407 women in Sweden, we estimated a five-year moving average of residential exposure to air pollution (PM, PM and NO), road traffic noise (L), and greenness (normalized difference vegetation index, NDVI in 500 m buffers), from 1998 to 2017 based on annually varying exposures and address history.

In the current in-vivo study we demonstrate the potential of the radiolabeled nanoparticle Lu-SN201 as an effective anticancer treatment, as evidenced by significantly prolonged survival and reduced tumor burden in the aggressive, triple negative 4T1 murine breast cancer model. We show with high statistical significance that Lu-SN201 is superior at suppressing the tumor growth not only compared to vehicle but also to the commonly used cancer drugs paclitaxel, niraparib, carboplatin, and the combination of the immune checkpoint inhibitors anti PD-1 and anti-CTLA-4. The dosing of the standard drugs were based on examples in the literature where good effects have been seen in various mouse models.

Article Synopsis
  • Fetal ultrasound can be limited by factors like maternal obesity and low amniotic fluid, making MRI a useful complementary tool for diagnosing anomalies in the second trimester.
  • A study analyzed data from 121 fetuses, revealing that MRI offered additional diagnostic information in 21% of cases and altered management in 13%, with higher impact seen in patients with obesity or oligohydramnios.
  • The findings suggest that MRI enhances the detection of CNS and non-CNS anomalies during the second trimester, especially in challenging cases, ultimately leading to better clinical management.

Background: The World Health Organization states that women and their families need breastfeeding support from the healthcare system. However, knowledge about the most effective way to involve the partner in breastfeeding is lacking. A qualitative evaluation can provide insight and knowledge about the partner's experiences towards a breastfeeding support intervention and thus contribute to how forthcoming breastfeeding support policies are designed.

Introduction: Fetal growth assessment by ultrasound is an essential part of modern obstetric care. The formula by Persson and Weldner for estimated fetal weight (EFW), used in Sweden since decades, has not yet been evaluated. The objective of this study was to evaluate accuracy and precision of the formula by Persson and Weldner, and to compare it to two other formulae using biparietal diameter instead of head circumference.

Although much progress has been made over the last decades, there is still a significant clinical need for novel therapies to manage cancer. Typical problems are that solid tumors are frequently inaccessible, aggressive, and metastatic. To contribute to solving some of these issues, we have developed a novel radioisotope-labeled 27 nm nanoparticle, Lu-SN201, to selectively target solid tumors via the enhanced permeability and retention effect, allowing irradiation intratumorally.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the risk factors and outcomes associated with spontaneous preterm birth (sPTB) with and without preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) in singleton pregnancies of first-time mothers in Sweden from 2005 to 2014.
  • Results show that sPTB-PPROM is more common among women with a history of spontaneous abortions and certain medical conditions, and these women have a higher risk of postpartum complications.
  • Infants born from sPTB-PPROM mothers experience lower rates of some conditions like birth asphyxia but have increased risks of hypoglycemia and hyperbilirubinemia compared to those from sPTB without PPROM.

Introduction: Alcohol consumption during pregnancy is related to severe birth complications such as low birthweight, preterm birth and birth defects. During the last decade, the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) has been used as a screening tool in Swedish maternal healthcare units to identify hazardous, pre-pregnancy alcohol use. However, evaluation of the screening with AUDIT, as well as adverse maternal or neonatal outcomes, has not been assessed at a national level.

Fetal growth restriction is a strong risk factor for perinatal morbidity and mortality. Reliable standards are indispensable, both to assess fetal growth and to evaluate birthweight and early postnatal growth in infants born preterm. The aim of this study was to create updated Swedish reference ranges for estimated fetal weight (EFW) from gestational week 12-42.

Ultrasonic assessment of fetal growth is an important part of obstetric care to prevent adverse pregnancy outcome. However, lack of reliable reference ranges is a major barrier for accurate interpretation of the examinations. The aim of this study was to create updated Swedish national reference ranges for intrauterine size and growth of the fetal head, abdomen and femur from gestational week 12 to 42.

Research Question: Do women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have higher testosterone levels during pregnancy and what role does high testosterone play in the development of obstetric complications?

Design: Retrospective cohort study from Uppsala University Hospital, Sweden. The study population consisted of women with PCOS (n = 159) and a comparison group of women without PCOS matched for body mass index (n = 320). Plasma testosterone levels were measured in the early second trimester by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry, and women with PCOS were grouped into tertiles according to their testosterone levels.

Introduction: Some studies have shown that women with a previous cesarean section, compared with women with a previous vaginal delivery, have an increased risk of retained placenta during a subsequent vaginal delivery. It is unknown whether this is mediated by anterior placental location, when the placenta might cover the uterine scar. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the increased risk of retained placenta in women with a previous cesarean section is mediated by anterior placental location.

Introduction: Obesity-associated adverse obstetric outcomes are well-known but still relatively rare and difficult to predict. Not all obese individuals are unhealthy; some have metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) and others have metabolic unhealthy obesity (MUO). Our aim was to investigate whether the MHO and MUO classification could be used for prediction of obesity-associated complications in pregnancy.

Research Question: An association has been found between high anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels during pregnancy and the development of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)-like phenotypic traits in mouse offspring. The aim of this study was to determine whether AMH levels are associated with maternal testosterone levels, and whether high AMH concentration influences the risk of developing PCOS-related adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Design: Maternal serum AMH, testosterone and sex hormone binding globulin levels were measured in blood samples taken in early second-trimester pregnancies from women with PCOS (n = 159) and healthy controls matched for body mass index (n = 320).
