Many of the drugs currently marketed for the treatment of schizophrenia are dopamine D2 receptor antagonists or partial agonists with or without mixed receptor pharmacology, and primarily treat the positive symptoms of schizophrenia. These drugs, depending on their pharmacological profile, have been categorized as typical (with low or no serotonergic component) and atypical (with a high serotonergic, 5-HT2A and 5-HT1A component) antipsychotics. Methods: The clinical phenotypes associated with compound heterozygosity for the CAP+1 (A-->C) mutation with other beta-thalassemia mutations, together with the potential effect of the genetic modifiers alpha-thalassemia and the Xmn-1(G)gamma C-->T polymorphism were studied in 30 patients. The frequency of the CAP+1 (A-->C) polymorphism was determined and an analysis of the red cell indices, HbA(2) levels, iron status, and alpha-globin genes was carried out in 35 heterozygotes.

Recently a subset of T cells, distinct from T helper (T(H))1 and T(H)2 cells, producing interleukin (IL)-17 (T(H)17) was defined and seems to have a crucial role in mediating autoimmunity and inducing tissue inflammation. Background: Noscapine, a naturally occurring antitussive phthalideisoquinoline alkaloid, is a tubulin-binding agent currently in Phase I/II clinical trials for anticancer therapy. Unlike currently available antimitotics such as taxanes and vincas, noscapine is water-soluble, well tolerated, and shows no detectable toxicity.
Objective: The goal was to develop a simple, sensitive, quantitative, selective, and less time-consuming high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for determination of noscapine and to study its pharmacokinetics in mice models.
