During the early phase of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), diagnosis was difficult due to the diversity in symptoms and imaging findings and the variability of disease presentation. Pulmonary manifestations are reportedly the main clinical presentations of COVID-19 patients. Scientists are working hard on a myriad of clinical, epidemiological, and biological aspects to better understand SARS-CoV-2 infection, aiming to mitigate the ongoing disaster.

The efficacy and safety of olokizumab for rheumatoid arthritis: a systematic review, pairwise, and network meta-analysis.

Olokizumab (OKZ) is a novel IL-6 inhibitor that directly targets IL-6 rather than its receptor. We aim to evaluate the efficacy and safety of OKZ for patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and to investigate the optimal treatment regimen. A systematic review, pairwise, and network meta-analysis synthesizing randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from WOS, CENTRAL, SCOPUS, EMBASE, and PubMed until August 31, 2022.

A simplified technique for correction of complete ptosis secondary to palpebral neurofibromatosis.

Purpose: To present a simplified technique in management of complete ptosis secondary to neurofibromatosis.

Methods: This prospective, non-comparative, clinical interventional study included 13 patients with complete ptosis secondary to histologically proved plexiform neurofibromas. It was conducted at the Orbital Unit of Assiut University Hospital, the referral center of Upper Egypt in the period between June 2013 and October 2021.

Successful Endovascular Repair of Infectious External Iliac Artery Anastomotic Pseudoaneurysm With Graft Preservation Post-Kidney Transplantation: Case Report and Review of Literature.

Background: Allograft artery-infected pseudoaneurysm (PA) represents a rare but life-threatening complication of kidney transplantation (KT). A review of the literature, showed that nearly all these cases ended resulted in graft loss. We presented a case of post-KT-infected external iliac artery anastomotic PA successfully managed by endovascular stenting with graft preservation.

Fabrication of Hierarchical, Porous, Bimetallic, Zeolitic Imidazolate Frameworks with the Incorporation of Square Planar Pd and Its Catalytic Application.

Bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) containing two different metal ions can exhibit superior performances when applied in heterogeneous catalysis. Herein, we present a facile one-pot synthesis method for PdCo-ZIFs with various Pd/Co ratios, where Pd(II) ions are successfully incorporated into the Co node sites of the ZIF structure. The local structure of the bimetallic ZIFs was comprehensively investigated by pore-structure, X-ray absorption fine structure, and in situ CO adsorption Fourier transform infrared analyses.

Outcomes of Radiofrequency Ablation for Solitary T1a Renal Cell Carcinoma: A 20-Year Tertiary Cancer Center Experience.

Background: The aim is to determine the long-term oncologic and survival outcomes of the radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of solitary de novo T1a renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed our renal ablation registry and included only patients with new solitary, biopsy-proven T1a RCC (<4 cm) who underwent RFA from January 2001 through December 2020. We collected patient and tumor characteristics.

Autophagy controls mucus secretion from intestinal goblet cells by alleviating ER stress.

Colonic goblet cells are specialized epithelial cells that secrete mucus to physically separate the host and its microbiota, thus preventing bacterial invasion and inflammation. How goblet cells control the amount of mucus they secrete is unclear. We found that constitutive activation of autophagy in mice via Beclin 1 enables the production of a thicker and less penetrable mucus layer by reducing endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress.

Management and outcomes of intracranial fungal infections in children and adults in Africa: a scoping review protocol.

Introduction: The protocol presents the methodology of a scoping review that aims to synthesise contemporary evidence on the management and outcomes of intracranial fungal infections in Africa.

Methods And Analysis: The scoping review will be conducted in accordance with the Arksey and O'Malley's framework. The research question, inclusion and exclusion criteria and search strategy were developed based on the Population, Intervention, Comparator, Outcome framework.

Large Middle Cranial Fossa Schwannoma: A Rare Presentation of Vestibular Schwannoma.

Schwannomas are benign tumors composed of neoplastic Schwann cells and rarely occur in the central nervous system. Schwannomas account for approximately 8% of intracranial tumors and most commonly originate from cranial nerve VIII at the cerebellopontine angle in the posterior fossa. Herein, we report two cases of vestibular schwannomas extending in the middle fossa.

Peripartum Cardiomyopathy: A Review Article.

Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is an important cause of heart failure (HF) in northern Nigeria and many other regions of the world. Although the aetiology is unknown, several aetiopathogenic mechanisms have been proposed, including myocarditis, vasculo-hormonal (16-kDa prolactin and Cathepsin D), genetic susceptibility and selenium deficiency hypotheses. The peripartum cardiomyopathy in Nigeria (PEACE) registry has revealed that three socioeconomic factors (lack of formal education, unemployment, underweight status), pre-eclampsia and selenium deficiency were independently associated with higher risk for PPCM.

A rare case of left parapharyngeal space large schwannoma of unknown origin.

Schwannoma, also called neurilemmoma, is a rare neurogenic tumor exclusively benign that develops from a variety of glial nerve cells called Schwann cells. We present a 26-year-old female patient who was admitted with a history of dysphagia, headache and swelling going from the lower limit of the ear to the floor of the neck on the left side, which has been slowly progressing for 5 years. Upon local clinical examination, a well-defined mass was revealed, 6 × 5 cm in size, non-painful spontaneously, painful on direct palpation of the left neck.

Objective: Patients with diabetes have poorer outcomes with coronary artery disease (CAD) and pose a unique clinical population for revascularization. We performed a pairwise meta-analysis of randomized trials (RCTs) and propensity-matched observational studies (PMS) to compare the clinical outcomes of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with diabetes.

Background: Recent trial data suggest a benefit to catheter ablation (CA) compared to medical therapy for atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with heart failure (HF). Nevertheless, because of mixed trial evidence, contemporary guidelines give it a class 2 recommendation. Accordingly, we sought to assess the currently available evidence for CA in HF with AF.

Exploring women's experiences during childbirth in health facilities during COVID-19 pandemic in occupied palestinian territory: a cross-sectional community survey.

Introduction: This study aims to assess the prevalence of mistreatment during childbirth in the occupied Palestinian territory and to explore factors associated with mistreatment.

Methods: A cross-sectional study of women who gave birth in the West Bank and Gaza Strip health facilities. The survey was administered over the phone to women up to 8 weeks post-partum.

Colonic drug delivery: Formulating the next generation of colon-targeted therapeutics.

Colonic drug delivery can facilitate access to unique therapeutic targets and has the potential to enhance drug bioavailability whilst reducing off-target effects. Delivering drugs to the colon requires considered formulation development, as both oral and rectal dosage forms can encounter challenges if the colon's distinct physiological environment is not appreciated. As the therapeutic opportunities surrounding colonic drug delivery multiply, the success of novel pharmaceuticals lies in their design.

Retrospective Evaluation of the Impact of Dose Escalation Using Pre-operative Simultaneous Integrated Boost Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy on the Outcome of Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer Patients.

Purpose: Evaluating the outcome of pre-operative simultaneous integrated boost volumetric modulated arc therapy (SIB-VMAT) concomitant with capecitabine in patients diagnosed with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during the period January 2013-December 2019.

Results: A total of 134 patients were enrolled. The median age at diagnosis was 59 years.
