Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a 21st century pandemic. Due to life-span prolongation combined with the increased rate of diabetes, a growing population of patients is afflicted with neuropathic foot deformities. Traditional operative repair of these deformities is associated with a high complication rate and relatively common infection incidence.

Background: Kirschner wire (K-wire) fixation for correction of hammertoe deformity is the gold standard for hammertoe surgery fixation, the current study compares it to percutaneous surgery with 3M Coban dressings.

Methods: All hammertoe corrections performed were retrospectively reviewed. For the K-wire fixation group: resection arthroplasty of the proximal interphalangeal joint was performed and fixed with a K-wire.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of the use of retentive cup primary total hip replacement (THR) in high-dislocation risk subcapital fracture patients.

Methods: During the years 2008 to 2012, 354 patients with displaced subcapital fracture were operated at our institute. The patients were selected to undergo primary constrained THR according to the following criteria: (1) a preinjury grade 4 or more on the Functional Independence Measure mobility item "5.

Anterior tarsal tunnel syndrome is often underdiagnosed, due to lack of clinical awareness and vague clinical presentation. Most often patients complain of pain located to the dorsum of the foot. The present study is a consecutive series of 13 patients treated according to a fixed protocol followed for a minimum of 24 months.

Background: All-polyethylene tibias (APT) are under-utilized in most of the Western countries, due to a shift from the original all-polyethylene design to metal-backed tibia (MBT) components. Only few total knee prostheses allow direct comparison between APT and MBT components, due to different geometric designs in many systems. The Depuy PFC Sigma prostheses have a similar geometric design in both the MBT and the APT, and with the same corresponding femoral component, thus allowing an assessment and comparison between APT and MBT components.

The commonly used extensive approaches to the distal tibia include the posteromedial and anterolateral approaches. The current report describes several cases performed using this technique establishing a rationale and safe zone for performing a transfibular approach to the distal tibia. The advantages of such approach are the excellent visualization of the lateral tibia and the articular space.

Background: The current research is a retrospective study that involves the description of a new trochleocapitellar index (TCI), on basis of anteroposterior (AP) radiographs of normal and fractured paediatric elbows. This index may be useful in assessing the alignment of the elbow with a supracondylar fracture.

Methods: The index was evaluated to define its normal and pathological range in children between the ages of 1-13 years.

A retrospective study was performed on 18 patients who had undergone revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) between 1992 and 2000 with stiff knee (average, 50 degrees range of motion). The so-called "wandering resident" surgical exposure was used. This procedure was used twice in 5 cases with low-grade infection in a 2-stage revision of their septic prosthesis.

More than 700 total knee arthroplasties were performed in our Department between 1992-2000. 6 patients developed pain on the postero-medial aspect of the knee, within 1 year of surgery. The pain increased during walking and especially on rising from a chair.

Between 1993 and 1998, 332 I-BII (Insall Burstein II) prostheses were implanted in our department. We studied 5 cases of tibial polyethylene spine fractures. The fractures occurred 3 to 5 years following the surgery.

We reviewed retrospectively 373 total hip replacements operated on using a lateral approach with the patient in a supine position. We found 21 iatrogenic fractures of the greater trochanter, all in women. 15 cases were diagnosed during the operation and were treated with wire fixation.
