Objectives: Orbital complications are the most common complication of acute rhinosinusitis, especially among pediatric patients. While most cases are treated with antibiotics alone, severe presentation may demand surgical intervention. Our goal was to determine which factors predict the need for surgery and to investigate the role of computerized tomography in the decision process.

Purpose: To assess the in vivo effects of bimatoprost 0.03% (Lumigan®) on the orbital fat in a rat model.

Methods: Twenty rats were randomly divided into two groups: bimatoprost was administrated to the right eye by topical drops (group 1) or retrobulbar injection (group 2), and saline was administrated to the left eye by similar administration routes (controls).

Background: Dacryocystorhinostomy is used to treat nasolacrimal duct obstruction when conservative measures fail. It may be performed via an external or endoscopic-endonasal approach. The aim of this study was to compare the outcomes of patients with nasolacrimal duct obstruction treated with simultaneous bilateral or unilateral dacryocystorhinostomy.

Article Synopsis
  • The eyelids, eyelashes, conjunctival fornices, and lacrimal system are crucial for maintaining eye health, and any abnormalities in these areas can lead to ocular surface diseases.
  • The text discusses how oculoplastic surgery can help treat various conditions related to the eyelids and surrounding structures, such as blink disorders, lagophthalmos (inability to close the eyes), and entropion (inward turning of the eyelid).
  • Additionally, it addresses issues like lid scarring, keratinization, trichiasis (misdirected eyelashes), and diseases affecting the punctal and lacrimal sac that can affect tear drainage and overall eye health.

Background: Fibromyalgia is a syndrome of unknown etiology that is characterized by widespread pain, which severely impairs quality of life. Several forms of occupational and alternative therapy have demonstrated beneficial effects in fibromyalgia patients.

Objectives: To assess the effects of participation in a floral design course on physical and psychiatric symptoms in a cohort of fibromyalgia patients.

Objective: Thyroid eye disease (TED) is characterized by an inflammatory response leading to soft tissue expansion within the bony orbit, which may cause exophthalmos. Studies of glaucoma patients reported periorbital fat atrophy after treatment with prostaglandin analogue drops. We hypothesize that owing to this side effect, prostaglandin analogue drops may benefit patients with TED-induced exophthalmos.

  • The study focused on how fibromyalgia patients in Israel use cannabis and gathered responses from a questionnaire shared in Facebook groups.
  • Out of 2,705 people, 383 completed the survey, with a high percentage reporting positive effects like pain relief and better sleep after using cannabis.
  • Most cannabis users were not licensed to use it legally, and while a small number experienced negative side effects, many still drove and worked while using cannabis.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to assess how well bevacizumab (Avastin) reduces corneal neovascularization in mice and compares different injection methods (intraocular vs. subconjunctival).
  • Neovascularization was induced in 125 mice, who then received bevacizumab via different injection routes, with results measured through digital imaging, immunohistochemistry, and VEGF level analysis.
  • Results showed that bevacizumab treatment reduced neovascularization, with intraocular injections being the most effective, while subconjunctival injections had the fastest initial response.
