Introduction: We sought to construct a simple clinical mortality prediction model in trauma patients that required pre-injury hemodialysis: Hemodialysis Outcomes Score in Trauma (HOST).
Methods: Trauma patients on pre-injury hemodialysis admitted between July 2013 to December 2021 were reviewed. Univariate and multivariable analysis was used to determine independent predictors of mortality and construct the HOST score.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of intermittent catheter users after using both reusable and single-use catheters, with a particular focus on factors that affected acceptability.
Design: Qualitative descriptive study following a clinical trial.
Participants And Setting: Thirty-six participants who had used both reusable and single-use catheters in a clinical trial were interviewed between June 2022 and March 2024.
Introduction: Evaluating the safety and acceptability of reusing catheters for intermittent catheterisation (IC) is one of the top 10 continence research priorities identified by the UK James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership in 2008. There are an estimated 50 000 IC users in England and this number is rising. Globally, both single-use catheters (thrown away after use) and multi-use/reusable ones (cleaned between uses) are used.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to understand the perspective of women and obstetricians in Coatepeque, Guatemala, to guide the development of a decision aid about mode of birth for women with a history of prior cesarean.
Methods: We conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with obstetricians at Coatepeque Hospital and women at the Center for Human Development in the southwest Trifinio region of Guatemala in February 2020.
Importance: Most youths receiving palliative care undergo many surgical interventions over their lifetimes. The intended purposes of interventions in the context of goals of care are not commonly articulated.
Objective: To describe the goals and purposes of surgical intervention in youths receiving palliative care and propose a framework discussing intervention using goal-oriented language.
Background: Though endometrial carcinomas are a relatively common cancer of the female genitourinary tract, they rarely metastasize. Similarly, clival metastases make up a tiny fraction of all brain metastases. To the authors' knowledge, an endometrial carcinoma clival metastasis has never been described in the literature; therefore, the authors present the following unusual case of a 69-year-old female with a history of an initially grade 2 endometrial adenocarcinoma that metastasized to her clivus.

Objectives: To explore parents' perspectives on reporting about child symptoms and quality of life (QoL) concurrently with their child in the context of pediatric advanced cancer.
Background/purpose: Despite the prevalence of surgical intervention in seriously ill children, data is scarce regarding interventions performed based on type of serious illness. We therefore sought to evaluate the surgical interventions performed from the time of serious illness diagnosis to the present in a cohort of children receiving palliative care, including identification of the surgical specialists involved in these procedures.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort analysis of surgical interventions in 197 children enrolled in a multicenter prospective cohort study (Pediatric Palliative Care Research Network SHARE Study).

In medicinal chemistry, purification and characterization of organic compounds is an ever-growing challenge, with an increasing number of compounds being synthesized at a decreased scale of preparation. In response to this trend, we developed a parallel medicinal chemistry (PMC)-tailored platform, coupling automated purification to mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) on a range of synthetic scales (∼3.0-75.

The use of whole blood (WB) has shown promise in improving mortality while lowering the utilization of blood products. However, the use of WB in older trauma patients has not been examined.

The endonasal access guide (EAG) has been demonstrated as a possible adjunct to minimize these events. However, to date, there have been no comparative studies performed and the potential time savings by using EAGs have yet to be quantified.

Splenic artery embolization (SAE) in higher-grade injuries likely plays an important role in increasing the success of NOM. We previously implemented a protocol requiring referral of all BSI grades III-V undergoing NOM for SAE.

Methods: Parents of children aged ≥2 years with advanced cancer at five cancer centers completed baseline surveys as part of the PediQUEST Response trial. HMH (housing, energy, and food) was operationalized as binary (≥1 HMH domains), ordinal (zero, one, or two or more HMH domains), and housing based (none, nonhousing [food and/or energy], only housing, or housing + other).

Despite the record-breaking discovery, development and approval of vaccines and antiviral therapeutics such as Paxlovid, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) remained the fourth leading cause of death in the world and third highest in the United States in 2022. Here, we report the discovery and characterization of PF-07817883, a second-generation, orally bioavailable, SARS-CoV-2 main protease inhibitor with improved metabolic stability versus nirmatrelvir, the antiviral component of the ritonavir-boosted therapy Paxlovid. We demonstrate the pan-human coronavirus antiviral activity and off-target selectivity profile of PF-07817883.

Much can be gleaned from the adult literature in understanding the characteristics that lead to recidivism in efforts to establish interventions for prevention. Our study aims to evaluate the rates, demographics, and features of pediatric trauma recidivism.

Objective: The objective was to determine whether or not a standardised and manualised care intervention delivered in primary care achieves superior symptomatic outcome for lower urinary tract symptoms to usual care.
