A novel phthalocyanine-based hybrid nanofilm is for the first time successfully applied as an oxidative platform for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) sensing to fine-resolve Raman-inactive compounds. The hybrid is formed by self-assembly of zinc(II) 2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-Octa[(3',5'-dicarboxy)-phenoxy]phthalocyaninate (ZnPc*) with the solid-supported monolayer of graphene oxide (GO) mediated by zinc acetate metal cluster. Atomic force microscopy, UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopies confirm that this simple coordination motive in combination with molecular structure of ZnPc* prevents contact quenching of the light-excited triplet state through aromatic stacking with GO particles.

Photoredox-catalyzed phosphonylation of bromo-substituted 1,10-phenanthrolines under visible light irradiation was studied. The reaction was shown to proceed under mild conditions with Eosin Y as a photocatalyst in DMSO under blue light irradiation. It is transition-metal-free and affords the target phosphonate-substituted 1,10-phenanthrolines in moderate yields (26-51%) in 22 to 40 h.

Non-conventional snake venom toxins, such as WTX from the cobra Naja kaouthia, are three-finger proteins containing a fifth disulfide bond in the N-terminal polypeptide loop I and inhibiting α7 and muscle-type nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs). Because the central polypeptide loop II of non-conventional toxins plays an important role in their biological activity, we synthesized several WTX loop II fragments with two cysteine residues added at the N- and C-termini and oxidized to form a disulfide bond. The inhibition by peptides of several nAChRs subtypes was investigated using different methods and the effects of peptides on the rat arterial pressure and heart rate were analyzed.

Two novel 1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-diamide ligands were constructed on the basis of 2-phenylpyrrolidine and obtained as pure diastereomers. These ligands demonstrated advanced properties in liquid-liquid extraction tests. We developed a model to project the expected annual clinical and economic burden of medically attended lower respiratory tract illnesses due to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV-LRTI) among US infants aged <12 months by combining information on population size, disease rates, mortality rates, and unit costs. The development of luminescent molecular materials has advanced rapidly in recent decades, primarily driven by the synthesis of novel emissive compounds and a deeper understanding of excited-state mechanisms. Herein, we report a streamlined synthetic approach to light-emitting diazapolyoxa- and polyazamacrocycles NCOQ and NCQ ( = 3-10; = 2, 3; = 2-5), incorporating a 2,3-diphenylquinoxaline residue (DPQ). This synthetic strategy based on macrocyclization through Pd-catalyzed amination reaction yields the target macrocycles in good or high yields (46-92%), enabling precise control over their structural parameters.

Introduction: In Argentina, vaccination with 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) followed by 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23; PCV13 → PPSV23) has been recommended for all adults aged ≥ 65 years and younger adults with chronic medical ("moderate-risk") or immunocompromising ("high-risk") conditions since 2017. A study of 2 health care claims databases (commercial, Medicaid) was undertaken to estimate the episodic cost of lower respiratory tract illness due to respiratory syncytial virus among infants aged <12 months overall, by age, and by birth gestational age. Among commercial-insured infants, mean costs were $28 812 for hospitalized episodes, $2575 for emergency department episodes, and $336 for outpatient clinic episodes. Costs were highest among infants aged <1 month and infants with a gestational age ≤32 weeks and were comparable among Medicaid-insured infants, albeit somewhat lower.

Ru(II) complexes with polypyridyl ligands (2,2'-bipyridine = bpy, 1,10-phenanthroline = phen) play a central role in the development of photocatalytic organic reactions. In this work, we synthesized four mixed-ligand [Ru(phen)(bpy)]-type complexes (Ru-Pcat-A) bearing two phosphonate substituents P(O)(OH)(OR) (R = H, Et) attached to the phen core at positions 3,8 (Ru-3,8PH and Ru-3,8PHEt) and 4,7 (Ru-4,7PH and Ru-4,7PHEt) of the heterocycle in high yields (87-99%) and characterized them using spectral methods. Single crystal X-ray diffraction was employed to determine the coordination mode of the ditopic phen ligand in Ru-4,7PH.

A highly efficient synthetic approach was developed for the synthesis of unsymmetrical 1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-diamides with two different substituents in the fourth and seventh positions of the phenanthroline core. The structures of these ligands were confirmed using various spectral methods including 2D-NMR and X-ray analysis. A noncovalent integration of nanosheets of molybdenum disulfide (MoS) and the zinc porphyrin complex Zn(II) 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphine (ZnTCPP) through coordination bonding with metal clusters of zinc acetate (Zn[OAc]) was applied for synthesis of stable hybrid nanomaterial avoiding surface prefunctionalization. The X-ray powder diffraction in combination with the BET nitrogen adsorption method confirms formation of a ZnTCPP-based surface-attached metal-organic framework (SURMOF) with micropores of 1.63 nm on the MoS nanosheets.
