The incorporation of photoresponsive groups into porous materials is attractive as it offers potential advantages in controlling the pore size and selectivity to guest molecules. A combination of computational modeling and experiment resulted in the synthesis of two azobenzene-derived organic cages based on building blocks identified in a computational screen. Both cages incorporate three azobenzene moieties, and are therefore capable of 3-fold isomerization, using either ditopic or tetratopic aldehydes containing diazene functionality.

This study aims to evaluate the effects of nano-ozone solution (NZS) on canine oocyte nuclear maturation, associated with the alterations of antioxidant and oxidant status and cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1), cyclin B1 gene expressions. Oocytes were cultured in four distinct concentrations of NZS (0.5, 1, 2, and 5 µg/mL) and parthenogenetically activated.

Background: Some parameters of 18F-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) can predict tumor chemosensitivity and survival in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).

Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate the prognostic value of pre- and post-treatment maximum standardized uptake values (SUVmax) in 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging for predicting mortality in patients with HNSCC, as well as its prognostic value in terms of disease progression, overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS).

Methods: This retrospective study included 37 patients with a histopathological diagnosis of HNSCCs between 2015 and 2018.

Objectives: To investigate the effects of increasing propolis doses on salivary glands exposed to radiotherapy (RT).

Methods: Thirty-seven rats were divided into 4 groups: The control group (G0, n: 7), G1 group (n: 10), G2 group (n: 10), and G3 group (n: 10). The rats in the G1 group received 15 Gray (Gy) RT only to the head and neck area.

Introduction: The choice of treatment for rectal cancer often differs in older and younger patients, with the rate of radiotherapy use lower among older adults. In our daily practice, when evaluating a frail older patient with rectal cancer, we usually choose to give less treatment. This may be due to concern that the patient will not be able to tolerate radiotherapy.

Ozone has been used as a therapy tool in medical science for conditions such as ulcers, peritonitis, wounds, and mostly joint problems. Ozone therapy strengthens the resistance to infections by kick-starting antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immune modulation systems. Ozone creates a defensive response against oxidative stress in membranes and protects metabolism against reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Background: Vaccines against coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) have been effective in preventing symptomatic diseases, hospitalizations, and intensive care unit (ICU) admissions. However, data regarding the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines in reducing mortality among critically ill patients with COVID-19 remains unclear.

Aims: To determine the vaccination status and investigate the impact of the COVID-19 vaccine on the 28-day mortality in critically ill patients with COVID-19.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of scheduled vincristine sulfate therapy on canine oocyte quality and nuclear oocyte maturation, associated with total antioxidant and oxidant status of ovaries and Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) concentrations in dogs with Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumor (CTVT). Six bitches suffering from CTVT and six healthy bitches were included in the study. Hemogram was carried out weekly.

Aim: Dental neglect is the failure of parents to meet a child's basic oral health needs and causes complications. Long screen time, and its health impact, is an important public health issue. This study is aimed at determining whether there is a relationship between screen time of children and parents and dental neglect.

Creativity can help people to innovate, overcome obstacles, and successfully navigate challenges in daily life. Some aspects of creativity rely on the prefrontostriatal loops and executive functions, which can be compromised in persons with HIV (PWH). This pilot study examined whether neuropsychological functioning plays a role in creativity in PWH.

Background: We aimed to evaluate the role of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) in determining the correct stage and predicting the pathological response.

Methods: Seventy one patients with pathologic proven rectal adenocarcinoma, clinical stage IIA-IVA, and neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) were evaluated retrospectively. Radiotherapy was delivered 45-50 Gy in 25 fractions with concomitant oral capecitabine.

Article Synopsis
  • Pesticides like diazinon (DZN) are widely used in agriculture but can lead to toxication, primarily affecting oxidative stress and inflammation rather than traditional cholinergic syndromes.
  • Researchers studied the protective effects of erdosteine (ERDOS) against DZN toxicity in rats, demonstrating that ERDOS improved oxidant-antioxidant parameters and cytokine levels altered by DZN exposure.
  • The findings suggest that ERDOS not only serves its role as a mucolytic agent but also possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, potentially offering therapeutic benefits in cases of DZN-related toxicity.

A large number of metal organic frameworks (MOFs) synthesized to date have nodes with a Zn metal, and a detailed understanding of their gas separation efficiency upon metal exchange is needed to pave the way for designing the next generation of MOFs. In this work, we implemented a protocol to identify MOFs with Zn nodes out of 10,221 MOFs and classified them into two main groups. Depending on the pore properties and adsorption selectivities, two MOFs from IRMOFs and two MOFs from ZnO-MOFs were selected.

: The rapid development of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) into a pandemic required people to quickly acquire, evaluate, and apply novel complex health-related information about the virus and transmission risks. This study examined the potentially unique and synergistic roles of individual differences in neurocognition and health literacy in the early uptake and use of COVID-19 public health information.: Data were collected between April 23 and 21 May 2020, a period during which 42 out of 50 states were under a stay-at-home order.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of Nigella sativa L. essential oil (NSE) on thyroid hormones and antioxidant levels in hypothyroidism (HT) and hyperthyroidism (HP) rats over four weeks.
  • NSE treatment at 200 mg/kg resulted in increased total triiodothyronine (TT) and improved antioxidant capacity in hypothyroid rats, while also decreasing TT in hyperthyroid rats.
  • The findings suggest that NSE has potential as a natural remedy to support thyroid health and reduce oxidative stress associated with thyroid disorders.

Objective: Spaced retrieval practice (SRP) and self-generation are among the most replicated and effective mnemonic strategies in the cognitive psychology literature, but their benefits have not yet been realized in healthcare settings. This study used a randomized, between-subjects design to examine the hypothesis that SRP with a self-generation booster can improve memory for health-related information among clinically referred persons with HIV (PWH), who often have difficulty acquiring new health knowledge.

Method: A consecutive series of 41 PWH referred to a county-funded urban neuropsychology clinic were enrolled.

Development of computation-ready metal-organic framework databases (MOF DBs) has accelerated high-throughput computational screening (HTCS) of materials to identify the best candidates for gas storage and separation. These DBs were constructed using structural curations to make MOFs directly usable for molecular simulations, which caused the same MOF to be reported with different structural features in different DBs. We examined thousands of common materials of the two recently updated, very widely used MOF DBs to reveal how structural discrepancies affect simulated CH , H , CO uptakes and CH /H separation performances of MOFs.
