Carbamazepine and oxcarbazepine are used for behavioral disorders following organic diseases. After severe acquired brain injury, patients may develop frontal symptoms. In our neurological rehabilitation routine, oxcarbazepine is used for better safety over carbamazepine, although its efficacy is not clarified.

This review aims to address the procedures and indications, required for the application of the mesenchymal stem cells treatment strategy of regenerative dentistry. Mesenchymal stem cells have rarely been used in this field; conversely, experience from other clinical fields and basic research seems to recommend the suitability of this scope of application. We reviewed 31 out of 206 articles on Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, etc.

Periodontal treatment has the aim to reduce oral infection and prevent the progression of the disease. The potential benefits of new therapy with Ozonline® for periodontal treatment, include improved patient compliance and an easier access to periodontal pocket. The objective of this study was to explore the efficacy of Ozonline® in the treatment of chronic periodontitis in adult patients.

The aim of this study is to preventively contaminate the abutment-fixture connection (AFC) with , to evaluate the presence of micro leaks in different types of implant-abutment connections, by measuring the concentration of , in the sulcular fluid over time. This microorganism produces the Reuterine, an antibiotic which counteracts the development of other microbial species. Fourteen biphasic implants were placed on 10 patients (3 women; 7 men; mean age 55.

Introduction: CBCT combined to intra-oral scansion are the means to build an endodontic surgical guide to perform an easier and safer access to the apex in endodontic micro-surgery. .

Methods: A 38-year-old woman presented chronic apical periodontitis, which involved the three roots of 16 that was treated by endodontic therapy several years ago elsewhere.

The popularity of one piece implants has increased considerably between patients and dentists. The advantages of one-piece immediate loading for rehabilitation of edentulous mandibles is to reduce the number of interventions and timing of prosthetic. These parameters can be better controlled with a one-piece implant.

Innovative implant thread design enables timesaving one-stage insertion, with no need for prior osteotomy. This technique may impair bone and implant surface. The aim of this study was to investigate the strain levels produced in surrounding bone by this new treatment approach during and after implant placement and the effect of high insertion torque on the surface microstructure of the implants.

The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of supportive periodontal therapy (i.e. scaling and root planning, SRP) alone, versus a chemical device silica dioxide (SiO2) colloidal solutions (SDCS) used in association with SRP in the treatment of chronic periodontitis in adult patients.

Respiratory disorders may follow brain injury and may also occur because of comorbidities and drug use, especially central depressants or muscle relaxants. Sleep can precipitate respiratory disorders, thus polysomnography can be a powerful diagnostic tool. By revealing breathing patterns that identify specific sleep disorders, polysomnography may unmask adverse pharmacological effects, for instance connecting central depressant drugs with central sleep apneas.

Robotically-driven orthoses (RDO) are promising for treating gait impairment in children with hemiplegia after acquired brain injury (ABI). Despite this, existing literature on the employment of RDO in ABI is scanty, and cohorts' age spans throughout the adult age, with no specific focus on the developmental age. We aim to compare a treatment solely based on conventional physiotherapy (CP) with a program combining RDO training with CP, and to examine the effect of time following ABI on recovery.

Disorders of consciousness may follow brain injury, due to impairments of wakefulness and/or awareness. Polysomnography can identify elements that may be ascribed to impairments of specific neuroanatomical areas. Recognizing which impairments affect each patient is crucial for diagnosis, prognosis, and to select an appropriate therapy.

Study Objective: Sleep patterns of pediatric patients in unresponsive wakefulness syndrome (UWS) have been poorly investigated, and the prognostic potential of polysomnography (PSG) in these subjects is still uncertain. The goal of the study was to identify quantitative PSG indices to be applied as possible prognostic markers in pediatric UWS.

Methods: We performed PSG in 27 children and adolescents with UWS due to acquired brain damage in the subacute phase.

Background: After traumatic brain injury, epilepsy affects up to 20 % of children. It is a risk factor, for both clinical recovery and cognitive performance; therefore pharmacological therapy is advisable. Current guidelines recommend prophylaxis to be initiated as soon as possible and tapered 1 week after trauma.

Purpose: To evaluate the combined effect of robotic-aided gait training (RAGT) and physical therapy (PT) on functional abilities and gait pattern in children and adolescents exiting acquired brain injury (ABI), through functional clinical scales and 3D-Gait Analysis (GA).

Methods: A group of 23 patients with ABI underwent 20 sessions of RAGT in addition to traditional manual PT. All the patients were evaluated before and after the training by using the Gross Motor Function Measures (GMFM) and the Functional Assessment Questionnaire.

Objectives: We aimed (i) to search for qualitative sleep patterns for pediatric unresponsive wakefulness syndrome (SPPUWS) in prolonged polysomnographic (PSG) recordings in children and adolescents with subacute severe disorders of consciousness due to an acquired brain damage; (ii) to investigate the clinical relevance of SPPUWS and of possible neurophysiological markers (rapid eye movement sleep and sleep spindles) in PSG recordings of pediatric patients with unresponsive wakefulness syndrome (UWS).

Methods: We performed a PSG study in 27 children with UWS due to acquired brain damage in the subacute phase. Patients received a full neurological examination and a clinical assessment with standardized scales.

To provide an estimate of the occurrence of misdiagnosis in paroxysmal events in institutionalized children with severe disabilities and refractory epilepsy. A multi-step diagnostic survey, from observational to long-term video-EEG monitoring was performed in 46 severe disabled children. Multirater Kappa statistic was used to assess agreement between investigators and to individualize children who remained with dubious events.

What Is Known And Objective: Dantrolene can be combined with baclofen to better treat spasticity, but may cause muscular weakness and dysphagia. We instead describe a pharyngeal spasm due to dantrolene.

Case Summary: A 12-year-old male received dantrolene 3 mg/kg/day in adjunct to baclofen 2 mg/kg/day, to improve spasticity.

The aim of this study was to describe psychological, behavioral, and adjustment problems in children and adolescents with acquired brain lesions of different origins. Three groups of patients with acquired brain lesions (15 patients with infectious origin, 37 with vascular origin, and 15 with other origin), ranging in age from 4 to 18 years, received a psychological evaluation, including the Child Behavior Checklist for ages 4 to 18 and the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale. About half of the total sample (47.

Purpose: To describe the electroclinical features of subjects who presented with a photosensitive benign myoclonic epilepsy in infancy (PBMEI).

Methods: The patients were selected from a group of epileptic subjects with seizure onset in infancy or early childhood. Inclusion criteria were the presence of photic-induced myoclonic seizures and a favorable outcome.

Movement disorders are rarely described in association with the "continuous spikes and waves during slow sleep (CSWS)" EEG pattern. We report the case of a young girl affected by an epileptic encephalopathy who, from the age of seven years and four months, has twice presented a movement disorder affecting the right arm, manifesting on awakening and disappearing by early afternoon. Sleep EEG during these periods showed continuous, high-amplitude, diphasic spikes and slow waves over the left hemisphere.

The objective of the study was to assess whether a family history of vascular disorders is more common in children and adolescents with migraine than in the general population. Family history of stroke, arterial hypertension, myocardial infarction and diabetes was investigated by history taking in relatives of ambulatory children and young adults with migraine and in a control group. The odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were used as a risk measure.
