The global epidemiology of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH): a systematic review.

Background And Aims: NAFLD is a leading cause of liver-related morbidity and mortality. We assessed the global and regional prevalence, incidence, and mortality of NAFLD using an in-depth meta-analytic approach.

Approach And Results: PubMed and Ovid MEDLINE were searched for NAFLD population-based studies from 1990 to 2019 survey year (last published 2022) per Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA).

Vigorous physical activity provides protection against all-cause deaths among adults patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Background: Mortality benefits of vigorous leisure time physical activity (LTPA) among adults with NAFLD is not known.

Aim: To investigate association between LTPA and reduction in all-cause mortality among adults with NAFLD.

Methods: We used NHANES (1999-2006) self-reported PA data for adults (≥40 years) with mortality follow-up through December 31, 2015.

Chronic Pain, Insomnia and their Mutual Maintenance: A Call for Cognitive Bias Research.

Chronic pain and insomnia are highly comorbid: Approximately 50% of those with chronic pain experience insomnia or clinically significant sleep disturbances, and 50% of those with insomnia experience chronic pain. Further, these conditions can be extremely disabling, particularly when they co-occur. There is increasing recognition of the need to tackle both chronic pain and insomnia together, as evidenced by growing empirical research in this area.

Potions for Emotions: Do self-reported individual differences in negative-emotional drinking predict alcohol consumption in the laboratory following exposure to a negative experience?

Aims: Research suggests that self-reports on inferred motives for engaging in behavior may be biased by limited introspective access into such processes. Self-reports on observable behavior, on the other hand, may generate more accurate responses with which to predict behavior. The aim was to determine whether drinking alcohol in response to negative emotion () is best predicted by self-reported individual differences in () motives to use alcohol to regulate negative emotion, or () the degree to which negative emotion impacts alcohol consumption (observable behavior).
