Disparities in the Prevalence of Psychiatric Illness in Hawaii's Houseless Population: A Retrospective Chart Review.

In the State of Hawaii, previous research has suggested that minority groups such as Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders are disproportionately affected by mental health disorders and have less access to mental health services. The purpose of this study was to determine if similar disparities in the prevalence of psychiatric disorders among different ethnic groups are also present among Hawaii's houseless population. A retrospective chart review of records from one of Oahu's major houseless outreach clinics was performed to gather patient demographics and reported histories of psychiatric diagnoses.

Testicular neoplasms, or testicular cancer, are not typically seen in the emergency department (ED) since their presentation involves a painless hard mass that emerges slowly over time. Uncommon presentation of testicular neoplasm to the ED with acute onset of scrotal pain may present challenges as an incomplete physical examination without supplemental imaging and laboratory workup may overlook the diagnosis of testicular neoplasm. Peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase 2 (PTRH2; Bit-1; Bit1) is an underappreciated regulator of adhesion signals and Bcl2 expression. Its key roles in muscle differentiation and integrin-mediated signaling are central to the pathology of a recently identified patient syndrome caused by a cluster of Ptrh2 gene mutations. These loss-of-function mutations were identified in patients presenting with severe deleterious phenotypes of the skeletal muscle, endocrine, and nervous systems resulting in a syndrome called Infantile-onset Multisystem Nervous, Endocrine, and Pancreatic Disease (IMNEPD).
