Objectives: X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) is characterized by increased concentrations of circulating fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23) resulting in phosphate wasting, hypophosphatemia, atypical growth plate and bone matrix mineralization. Epidemiologic studies suggest a relationship between FGF-23, obesity, and metabolic dysfunction. The prevalence of overweight and obesity is high in children with XLH.

Article Synopsis
  • Pediatric gastrointestinal fluoroscopy exams show significant differences in radiation doses across various centers, even for similar patient sizes and exam types.
  • The study involved five radiology departments analyzing over 2,400 exams, focusing on imaging protocols, radiation doses, and image quality through retrospective data collection.
  • Findings indicate a lack of correlation between increased radiation dose and improved image quality, suggesting the need for standardized guidelines to optimize practices and reduce unnecessary radiation exposure in pediatric care.
