As the use of antioxidant compounds in the domains of health, nutrition and well-being is exponentially rising, there is an urgent need to quantify antioxidant power quickly and easily, ideally within living cells. We developed an Anti Oxidant Power in Yeast (AOPY) assay which allows for the quantitative measurement of the Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and free-radical scavenging effects of various molecules in a high-throughput compatible format. Pom33 is an integral membrane protein of the yeast nuclear pore complex (NPC), and it is required for proper NPC distribution and assembly. To characterize the Pom33 NPC-targeting determinants, we performed immunoprecipitation experiments followed by mass spectrometry analyses. Nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) are multiprotein assemblies embedded within the nuclear envelope and involved in the control of the bidirectional transport of proteins and ribonucleoparticles between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. Since their discovery more than 50 years ago, NPCs and nucleocytoplasmic transport have been the focus of intense research. Here, we review how the use of a multiplicity of structural, biochemical, genetic, and cell biology approaches have permitted the deciphering of the main features of this macromolecular complex, its mode of assembly as well as the rules governing nucleocytoplasmic exchanges.

Background: Even though transurethral resection of the prostate remains the gold standard treatment for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) refractory to medical therapy, photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP) has become a popular alternative.
