Article Synopsis
  • Researchers studied the regulation of photosynthesis using the alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and identified 70 genes that were previously not well understood but are essential for the process.
  • They analyzed mutant strains missing these genes, leading to the assignment of 34 genes involved in forming and regulating specific photosynthetic complexes.
  • The study reveals new roles for several proteins in photosynthesis regulation, providing a valuable resource for understanding how photosynthesis works at a molecular level.

The collective polarization of cellular structures and behaviors across a tissue plane is a near universal feature of epithelia known as planar cell polarity (PCP). This property is controlled by the core PCP pathway, which consists of highly conserved membrane-associated protein complexes that localize asymmetrically at cell junctions. Here, we introduce three new mouse models for investigating the localization and dynamics of transmembrane PCP proteins: Celsr1, Fz6 and Vangl2.

The increase of carbapenem-resistant (CRE) and lack of therapeutic options due to the scarcity of new antibiotics has sparked interest toward the use of intravenous fosfomycin against systemic CRE infections. We aimed to investigate the pharmacodynamics of fosfomycin against carbapenem-resistant and Time-kill studies and population analysis profiles were performed with eight clinical CRE isolates, which were exposed to fosfomycin concentrations ranging from 0.25 to 2,048 mg/liter.

Photosynthetic organisms provide food and energy for nearly all life on Earth, yet half of their protein-coding genes remain uncharacterized. Characterization of these genes could be greatly accelerated by new genetic resources for unicellular organisms. Here we generated a genome-wide, indexed library of mapped insertion mutants for the unicellular alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.
