Cutaneous diphtheria from 2018 to 2022: an observational, retrospective study of epidemiological, microbiological, clinical, and therapeutic characteristics in metropolitan France.

The incidence of diphtheria has been rising over the past decade, particularly in its cutaneous form. A clinical review of the case series was therefore required. We reviewed the epidemiological, clinical, microbiological and therapeutic data of cutaneous diphtheria cases, in adult patients living in metropolitan France with a skin sample positive for corynebacteria of the complex between 2018 and 2022.

Impact of dupilumab on patch test results and allergic contact dermatitis: A prospective multicenter study.

Background: Limited and conflicting data have been reported on the impact of dupilumab (DUPI) on patch test (PT) results and its efficacy against allergic contact dermatitis (ACD).

Objective: This study was undertaken to analyze PT reactivities and relevance during treatment with DUPI to determine whether they could detect ACD in patients with uncontrolled or worsened atopic dermatitis (AD) who were receiving this agent.

Methods: This prospective, multicenter study examined 76 DUPI-treated patients who had undergone PTs.

In Situ Patch Test and Repeated Open Application Test for Fixed Drug Eruption: A Multicenter Study.

Background: Few studies have evaluated allergy workup in fixed drug eruption (FDE) in a large population.

Objective: To evaluate the sensitivity of a standardized allergy workup for diagnosing the cause of FDE, with a focus on in situ repeated open application tests (ROATs).

Methods: In a retrospective multicenter study, we analyzed the practice of conducting a complete allergy workup for the etiological diagnosis of FDE.

Allergic contact dermatitis from essential oil in consumer products: Mode of uses and value of patch tests with an essential oil series. Results of a French study of the DAG (Dermato-Allergology group of the French Society of Dermatology).

Objective: To analyse the clinical characteristics and sensitivity of an essential oil patch test series (EOS) in patients sensitized to their own essential oils (EOs).

Method: We analysed the clinical data and patch test results obtained with the European baseline series (BSE) and an EOS, as well as the mode of use of EOs, through a questionnaire included in the patient file.

Results: The study included 42 patients (79% women, average age 50 years) with allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), 8 patients required hospitalization.

Background: Allergic contact dermatitis to gloves is mostly induced by rubber accelerators. The European baseline series (EBS) appears insufficient to detect glove allergy. Since 2017, it is recommended to use the European rubber series (ERS) and to test the patients' own gloves.

Background: Human immunoglobulins are used for treating diverse inflammatory and autoimmune disorders. Eczema is an adverse event reported but poorly described.

Introduction: Meloidae are distributed in temperate and arid regions but are also common in subtropical and tropical savannahs. These insects contain cantharidin, a vesicant substance that can cause poisoning by ingestion and dermatitis by direct contact.

Material And Methods: We describe recurrent Meloidae-related dermatitis outbreaks and their health impact by analyzing medical consultation records and meteorological data.

What is the optimal duration for a ROAT? The experience of the French Dermatology and Allergology group (DAG).

Background And Objectives: The repeated open application test (ROAT) is an adjuvant investigation measure to patch testing in the diagnosis of allergic contact dermatitis. ESCD recommends a 15 days duration but its overall duration varies according to publications and patients hardly adhere to prolonged ROAT duration beyond 1 week.

Materials And Methods: The Dermatology and Allergy Group of the French Society of Dermatology performed a prospective study with the aim of determining the best duration for the ROAT.

Alleged Allergy to Penicillin and Isolation Issues: Toward New Practices for French Navy?

Introduction: According to the literature, 8% of the population claim to have an allergy to penicillin. Allergy tests show that 90% of these patients tolerate this molecule. Physicians working in the French Navy are faced with situations of real isolation and only have a limited number of antibiotics on board, the majority of which are penicillins.

Effectiveness and safety of dupilumab for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in a real-life French multicenter adult cohort.

Background: Dupilumab is the first biologic available to treat atopic dermatitis (AD). Its effectiveness and safety were demonstrated in clinical trials.

Objective: We sought to assess the effectiveness and safety of dupilumab in adults with AD in a real-life French multicenter retrospective cohort.

Contact sensitization to modern dressings: a multicentre study on 354 patients with chronic leg ulcers.

Background: Modern dressings (MDs) may have a low sensitization rate, but there is a lack of prospective studies in patients with chronic leg ulcers (CLUs) to evaluate this.

Objectives: To determine the rate of sensitization (contact allergy) to MDs and substances present in dressings.

Patients And Methods: A prospective multicentre study was carried out in patients with CLUs at five French dermatology departments; patch tests were performed with the European baseline series and with an additional 27 individual allergens and 10 MDs.

[In-house PCR practical knowledge: a sufficient validation according to NF EN ISO 15189?].

As far as molecular biology is concerned, numerous are laboratories using in-house method. Used since many years, medical biologists have often a good practical knowledge about them. According to ISO 15189 accreditation, is this knowledge sufficient for the validation of these methods? We have asked this question ourselves about our in-house Leishmaniasis PCR.
