Ultrafast reaction processes take place when resonant features of nonlinear model systems are taken into account. In the targeted energy or electron transfer dimer model this is accomplished through the implementation of nonlinear oscillators with opposing types of nonlinearities, one attractive while the second repulsive. In the present work, we show that this resonant behavior survives if we take into account the vibrational degrees of freedom as well.

Two key phenomena─immobilization and concentration-dependent mixing free energies─simultaneously alter the sorption thermodynamics and diffusion of vapors in materials. This interrelation is leveraged to fit a unified model simultaneously capturing both sorption dynamics and the equilibrium isotherms. This transport model incorporates quasi-equilibrated immobilization reactions and considers Fick's law rigorously in terms of chemical potential gradients rather than concentration gradients.

Naturally occurring coatings on aluminum metal, such as its oxide or hydroxide, serve to protect the material from corrosion. Understanding the conditions under which these coatings mechanically fail is therefore expected to be an important aspect of predictive models for aluminum component lifetimes. To this end, we develop and apply a molecular dynamics (MD) modeling framework for conducting tension tests that is capable of isolating factors governing the mechanical strength as a function of coating chemistry, defect morphology, and variables associated with the loading path.

Most plant conservation strategies generally overlook the intra-specific genetic diversity of crop gene pools. Focusing on forage crops and their wild relatives, we present a novel approach to address the conservation of these species on meadows. Two-thirds of Swiss agricultural land is green land, mostly used for forage purposes, and their genetic diversity is being threatened.

Introduction: Procedures to prepare and infuse intravenous drugs are poorly documented.

Objective: To determinate the optimal mode of hydroxocobalamin administration in children in emergency care.

Methods: We identified three modes of administration: (1) connect infusion tubing to the vial, start the infusion and interrupt it when the desired dose has been delivered; (2) remove from the vial the volume corresponding to the excessive dose and connect infusion tubing and (3) extract from the vial the required volume to be delivered and infuse directly.

Bare aluminum metal surfaces are highly reactive, which leads to the spontaneous formation of a protective oxide surface layer. Because many subsequent corrosive processes are mediated by water, the structure and dynamics of water at the oxide interface are anticipated to influence corrosion kinetics. Using molecular dynamics simulations with a reactive force field, we model the behavior of aqueous aluminum metal ions in water adsorbed onto aluminum oxide surfaces across a range of ion concentrations and water film thicknesses corresponding to increasing relative humidity.

Disposing efficiently and safely chlorophyll derivatives during senescence requires a coordinated pathway that is well conserved throughout green plants. The PAO/phyllobilin pathway catalyzes the degradation of the chlorophyll during senescence and allows detoxification of the pigment and its subsequent export from the chloroplast. Although most of the chloroplastic reactions involved in chlorophyll degradation are well understood, the diversity of enzymes responsible for downstream modifications of non-phototoxic phyllobilins remains to be explored.

Merging comparative genomics and metabolomics, we evaluate the extent to which the chlorophyll detoxification pathway has evolved in Viridiplantae.
