Background: The spectacular decline in pollinators and their prominent role in pollination of natural and cultivated plants has stimulated research on pollinating insects. Over the last ten years, much ecological research has been carried out on bees, often generating a large volume of specimens and increasing the importance of entomological collections. Here, we present the bee collection of the IMBE laboratory (Marseille, France) after ten years of study of plant-pollinator networks.

The crop cycle of winter oilseed rape (WOSR) incorporates source-to-sink remobilisation during the vegetative stage as a principal factor influencing the ultimate seed yield. These processes are supported by the coordinated activity of the plant's central metabolism. However, climate change-induced drought will affect the metabolic acclimation of WOSR sink/source relationships at this vegetative stage, with consequences that remain to be determined.

Comparison of surgical management and outcomes of acute right colic and sigmoid diverticulitis: a French national retrospective cohort study.

Background: Acute right colic diverticulitis (ARD) is less frequent in Western countries than acute sigmoid diverticulitis (ASD). We aimed to compare the management of ARD and ASD operated on in emergency.

Methods: All consecutive patients who had emergency surgery for ASD and ARD (2010-2021) were included in a retrospective, multicenter, cohort study.

A hand-washing community-based educational intervention to reduce abscess incidence among people who inject drugs: a cluster randomised controlled clinical trial protocol (the HAWA study protocol).

Background: Besides the high prevalence of HIV and HCV infections, people who inject drugs (PWID) have a cumulative risk of acquiring skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI) from, among other things, social precariousness, homelessness/unstable housing, and unhygienic injecting practices. We propose to evaluate whether a two-component educational hand hygiene intervention which combines training in hand-washing with the supply of a single-use alcohol-based hand rub, called MONO-RUB, is effective in reducing injection-related abscesses in the PWID population. Specifically, we shall implement a nationwide, two-arm, multi-centre, cluster randomised controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of this intervention in PWID.

Achieving healthy and profitable production through collective action? The case of vegetable farmers in the French West Indies.

Given the multiple challenges that agriculture faces, collective action is a potential pathway towards more sustainable agriculture. This article aims to contribute to the literature by assessing the extent to which collective action can meet the objective of both healthy and profitable production in the French West Indies. To do so, we call on the theory of collective action and emphasise the role of formal and informal collectives in achieving the objectives of improving income and implementing agroecological practices.

Narrative cave art in Indonesia by 51,200 years ago.

Previous dating research indicated that the Indonesian island of Sulawesi is host to some of the oldest known rock art. That work was based on solution uranium-series (U-series) analysis of calcite deposits overlying rock art in the limestone caves of Maros-Pangkep, South Sulawesi. Here we use a novel application of this approach-laser-ablation U-series imaging-to re-date some of the earliest cave art in this karst area and to determine the age of stylistically similar motifs at other Maros-Pangkep sites.

Background: Obesity is a public health concern with an increasing occurrence worldwide. Literature regarding impact of obesity on results after management of peritoneal carcinomatosis is poor. Our aim was to compare postoperative and oncological outcomes after cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for rare peritoneal malignancies according to the body mass index.

Stenosis of the colorectal anastomosis after surgery for diverticulitis: A national retrospective cohort study.

Aim: The aim of this work was to investigate the association between early postoperative anastomotic leakage or pelvic abscess (AL/PA) and symptomatic anastomotic stenosis (SAS) in patients after surgery for left colonic diverticulitis.

Method: This is a retrospective study based on a national cohort of diverticulitis surgery patients carried out by the Association Française de Chirurgie. The assessment was performed using path analyses.

SiLaT: A paradigm shift in the treatment of pilonidal disease?

Background: Pilonidal disease (PD) is a common condition for which the global incidence is increasing. Surgery is the currently preferred approach to treatment but there is a growing interest in new minimally invasive techniques, such as sinus laser therapy (SiLaT).

Background: Acute diverticulitis with extraluminal air constitutes a heterogeneous condition whose management is controversial. The aims of this study are to report the failure rate of conservative treatment for diverticulitis with extraluminal air and to report risk factors of conservative treatment failure.

Methods: A retrospective study was performed from an institutional review board-approved database of patients admitted with acute diverticulitis with extraluminal air from 2015 to 2021 at a tertiary referral center.

When a star explodes in vacuum, the first photons to escape from its surface appear as a brief, hours-long shock-breakout flare, followed by a cooling phase of emission.
