Embryologically based resection of cervical cancers: a new concept of surgical radicality.

Objectives With the objective of improving outcomes in oncological surgery, a new concept of surgical anatomy deduced from embryonic development, called ontogenetic anatomy and compartment theory of local tumor spread, is proposed by Michael Höckel from Germany. Hypothesis Compartment resection enables the preservation of functionally important tissues of different embryonic origin despite its close proximity to the tumor and incomplete resection of the compartment results in increase in local recurrences. This approach should maximize local tumor control and minimize treatment-related morbidity.

Pain relief in laparoscopic tubal ligation using intraperitoneal lignocaine: a double masked randomized controlled trial.

Objective: The intraperitoneal route of analgesia has been studied over the years for effective perioperative pain relief during minimally invasive surgery, but there were conflicting reports of the use of intraperitoneal analgesic administration and moreover there was no consensus regarding the dose and type of drugs used. We report a randomized trial to assess the safety and effectiveness of intraperitoneal lignocaine as an intraoperative and postoperative analgesic in laparoscopic tubal ligation.

Study Design: This is a double masked, randomized parallel group placebo-controlled trial of women seeking laparoscopic sterilization under local anaesthesia at a university hospital.

Comparison of two dosing regimens of vaginal misoprostol for labour induction: a randomised controlled trial.

Objective: To compare the clinical efficacy of two different dosing regimens of vaginal misoprostol for labour induction.

Material And Methods: This is an open label randomised controlled trial of 100 eligible women with obstetrical or medical indications for labour induction at a secondary level care hospital on the west coast of India. Women were randomised to receive either a single 50 μg dose or multiple 25 μg doses (maximum of three doses) of misoprostol in the posterior vaginal fornix.
