Background: Malnutrition is associated with increased morbidity and mortality after trauma. The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) is a validated scoring system used to predict the risk of complications related to malnutrition in nontrauma patients. We hypothesized that GNRI is predictive of worse outcomes in geriatric trauma patients.

One of NF's pros is to provide a controlled drug release through managing the NF structure by changing the spinneret type and nature of the used polymer. Electrospun NFs are employed as implants in several applications including, cancer therapy, microbial infections, and regenerative medicine.

The incidence of IS in SARS-CoV-2 infection is increasing, and its mechanism is still not fully understood. Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) -the abundantly expressed protein in the peripheral and central nervous system- showed low expression in SARS-CoV-2 patients.

To date, no standard guidelines regarding the surgical repair of the infected AVFs is available.
Aim: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of the surgical repair in the infected autogenous AVFs.
Methyl paraben (MP) is an endocrine-disrupting compound that possesses estrogenic properties and contributes to an aberrant burden of estrogen signaling in the human breast and subsequently increasing the risks for the development of breast cancer. The exact exposure, as well as the safe concentrations, are variable among daily products. The present study addresses the effects of exposure to escalated concentrations of MP on the proliferation of MCF-7 breast cancer cells in addition to exploring its other mechanisms of action.

The present study aimed to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the presentation management and outcomes of acute appendicitis (AA) in different centers in the Middle East.
Methods: This multicenter cohort study compared the presentation and outcomes of patients with AA who presented during the COVID-19 pandemic in comparison to patients who presented before the onset of the pandemic.
Purpose: To investigate retinal sensitivity changes in eyes with pure cuticular drusen.
Methods: Multimodal imaging and microperimetry (37-loci grid) data were examined retrospectively to evaluate functional changes in eyes with pure cuticular drusen. Mean sensitivity in the cuticular drusen cohort was compared to age-matched normals.
The present comprehensive study aims to achieve the highest freshwater productivity of hemispherical solar distillers which are characterized by having a large condensing and receiving surface area. This was done by incorporating two effective modifications to the design of the hemispherical solar distiller, namely the use of metal trays with high thermal conductivity and reflective mirrors. In the present experimental work, three different high thermal conductivity metal trays (steel, zinc, and copper) incorporated with the reflective mirrors were tested under the same climate conditions, in order to determine the optimum selection of metal trays that are incorporated with the reflective mirrors that achieve the highest performance of the hemispherical distillers.

In this study, aluminum foil sheet was used to reflect the intensity, hence augmenting the evaporation rate and daily yield. Experimentations were conducted on two SS: the first SS is HSS; the second SS is HSS with reflective aluminum foil sheet walls (HSS-RAFW).

Considerable progress has been made to understand the exact mechanism leading to this disease. Most of what is known comes from the evidence of PD brains' autopsies showing a deposition of Lewy bodies-containing a protein called α-synuclein (α-syn)-as the pathological determinant of PD.

Methods: At the normal altitude level, 808 patients underwent LSG, and 467 patients underwent LSG in high-altitude regions. The primary outcome was evaluated based on the postoperative morbidity rate.
Objective: Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) affects millions of newborns annually, especially in low-resource settings. Real-time monitoring of hypoxic-ischemic brain damage is urgently needed for assessment of severity and management of neonates with birth asphyxia. Aim of the work is monitoring of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)-measured cerebral regional oxygen saturation (cRSO and cerebral fractional tissue oxygen extraction (FTOE) in neonates after birth asphyxia in relation to their clinical course.

In recent years, a large number of studies have been focused on synthesizing nano-scale MOFs (nanoMOFs), thus taking advantage of these unique materials in various applications, especially those that are only possible at nano-scale. One of the technologies where nanoMOF materials occupy a central role is the membrane technology as one of the most efficient separation techniques.

These lesions have been noticed in the dorsal and ventral part of the head near the snout and around the eyes, as well as in the skin of the pectoral fins. The parasitological, pathological and ultramorphological aspects of the sampled fish were studied using a light microscope, as well as scanning and transmission electron microscopes.

Methods: Several policy changes affecting the liver transplant processes were agreed upon.
Background: The Coronavirus 2019 is a pandemic that has spread worldwide, threatening human health. The main cause of death in patients with COVID-19 is a systemic pro-inflammatory mechanism that quickly progresses to acute respiratory distress syndrome. Hematological ratios as affordable indicators of inflammatory response were studied in COVID-19 patients.
