Introduction/objectives: Genetic variations could explain individual responses to drugs. This case-control study aimed to investigate the association between the multidrug resistance 1 (MDR1) gene exonic single nucleotide variants (SNVs), rs1128503/C1236T and rs1045642/C3435T, and the response to intravenous methylprednisolone in Egyptian patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Method: Real-time polymerase chain reaction was used.

Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 2 (PTPN2) gene have been documented to be linked with several autoimmune disorders including Behçet's disease (BD). PTPN2 SNPs rs2542151 and rs7234029 have been assessed using real-time PCR in 96 BD patients and 50 controls matched by age and gender. Patients were categorized into groups according to the disease phenotypes and severity.

A scoping review of early childhood caries, poverty and the first sustainable development goal.

Background: Poverty is a well-known risk factor for poor health. This scoping review (ScR) mapped research linking early childhood caries (ECC) and poverty using the targets and indicators of the Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG1).

Group I patients included females who had their first pregnancy after LN onset with ≥5 years elapsing after delivery; group II patients included females who had never got pregnant for ≥7 years after LN onset. Pregnancy outcomes among Egyptian women with systemic lupus erythematosus: A prospective cohort study.

Pregnant patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) represent a high-risk group. The aim of this study is to describe the pregnancy outcomes among SLE patients who were followed prospectively at a conjoint high-risk pregnancy/rheumatology clinic from 2007 to 2021 and to identify predictors of adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. This study included 201 singleton pregnancies of 123 women with SLE.

Background & Aims: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an emerging epidemic; it is a negative diagnosis that depends mainly on the presence of hepatic steatosis with or without inflammation after the exclusion of other chronic liver diseases and excess alcohol intake. However, the new definition of MAFLD is a shift towards a diagnosis of inclusion based on the presence of metabolic dysfunction, regardless of alcohol consumption or other concomitant liver diseases. Given the growing relevance of the disease, data on hepatologists' views and understanding of NAFLD are limited, we aimed to determine hepatologists' awareness and expertise of NAFLD screening, diagnosis, and therapeutic options as well as the influence of changing the NAFLD name to MAFLD on awareness of the fatty liver disease (FLD).
