Multicentre, interventional, single-arm study protocol of telemonitored circadian rhythms and patient-reported outcomes for improving mFOLFIRINOX safety in patients with pancreatic cancer (MultiDom, NCT04263948).

Introduction: Circadian clocks regulate cellular proliferation and drug effects. Tolerability and/or efficacy of anticancer therapies have been improved by their administration according to circadian rhythms, while being predicted by circadian robustness. The combination of leucovorin, fluorouracil, irinotecan and oxaliplatin (mFOLFIRINOX) is a standard treatment for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), that generates grades 3-4 adverse events in the majority of patients and an estimated 15%-30% emergency admission rate.

Digital circadian and sleep health in individual hospital shift workers: A cross sectional telemonitoring study.

Background: Telemonitoring of circadian and sleep cycles could identify shift workers at increased risk of poor health, including cancer and cardiovascular diseases, thus supporting personalized prevention.

Methods: The Circadiem cross-sectional study aimed at determining early warning signals of risk of health alteration in hospital nightshifters (NS) versus dayshifters (DS, alternating morning and afternoon shifts). Circadian rhythmicity in activity, sleep, and temperature was telemonitored on work and free days for one week.

Emergency medical staffs' knowledge and attitude about organ donation after circulatory determined death (DCD) and its related factors.

Background: Adverse attitudes and insufficient knowledge about organ donation after Circulatory Determined Death (DCD) among emergency staff can have important consequences for the proper identification of potential DCD donors. This is aided by the constant application of donation after Circulatory Determined Death policies, and the relative strength of support for this type of donation. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the awareness and attitude of emergency personnel about organ donation after Circulatory Determined Death.

Enhancing image quality of single-frequency microwave imaging with a multistatic full-view array based on sidelobe reduction.

Single-frequency microwave imaging can be effectively realized with multistatic full-view arrays, offering great potential in various sensing applications. In this paper, we address the problem of forming high quality images with the focus on multistatic full-view arrays. We aim to enhance its image quality by means of reducing the side-lobe level (SLL) of the imaging array.

On Structure-Function Relationships in the Female Human Urethra: A Finite Element Model Approach.

Remarkably little is known about urethral striated and smooth muscle and vascular plexus contributions to maintaining continence or initiating micturition. We therefore developed a 3-D, multiphysics, finite element model, based on sequential MR images from a 23-year-old nulliparous heathy woman, to examine the effect of contracting one or more individual muscle layers on the urethral closure pressure (UCP). The lofted urethra turned out to be both curved and asymmetric.

Comparison of anorectal function measured using wearable digital manometry and a high resolution manometry system.

There is a need for a lower cost manometry system for assessing anorectal function in primary and secondary care settings. We developed an index finger-based system (termed "digital manometry") and tested it in healthy volunteers, patients with chronic constipation, and fecal incontinence. Anorectal pressures were measured in 16 participants with the digital manometry system and a 23-channel high-resolution anorectal manometry system.

Single-Cell Intravital Microscopy of Trastuzumab Quantifies Heterogeneous in vivo Kinetics.

Cell-to-cell heterogeneity can substantially impact drug response, especially for monoclonal antibody (mAb) therapies that may exhibit variability in both delivery (pharmacokinetics) and action (pharmacodynamics) within solid tumors. However, it has traditionally been difficult to examine the kinetics of mAb delivery at a single-cell level and in a manner that enables controlled dissection of target-dependent and -independent behaviors. To address this issue, here we developed an in vivo confocal (intravital) microscopy approach to study single-cell mAb pharmacology in a mosaic xenograft comprising a mixture of cancer cells with variable expression of the receptor HER2.

Reflectionless compact nonmagnetic optical waveguide coupler design based on transformation optics.

The design of an optical waveguide coupler has several challenges, such as reflection losses at the interfaces of the coupler, material complexity for optical applications, and the coupling between arbitrary materials at the input and the output of the coupler. In this paper, for the first time to the best of our knowledge, we propose a solution to overcome the above difficulties. For this purpose, we introduce an auxiliary transformation function and an impedance scaling function.

Efficacy of purposeful educational workshop of medical and nonmedical interventions based on needs assessments in nurses.

Background: The medical and nonmedical care of patients is the necessary skills in nursing profession. That it needs proper knowledge and attitude. Hence, it is important to promote nurses' knowledge and attitude by education based on need assessment.

D-cycloserine for treatment of numbing and avoidance in chronic post traumatic stress disorder: A randomized, double blind, clinical trial.

Background: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) tends to follow a chronic and treatment resistant course. Avoidance and numbing are symptoms associated with chronicity and impaired life quality. As D-cycloserine (DCS) can facilitate extinction of conditioned fear, we aimed to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of DCS for the treatment of numbing and avoidance in chronic PTSD.

Efficacy of purposeful educational workshop on nursing care.

Background: This study aimed to define the efficacy of a nursing care educational workshop on nurses' knowledge and attitude until 3 months after holding the workshop in psychiatric wards of educational hospitals in Isfahan.

Materials And Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study. The study population comprised all nurses working in psychiatric wards of Nour and Farabi hospitals in Isfahan in 2012.

Linguistic validation of the sleep disturbance scale for children (SDSC) in Iranian children with Persian language.

Objective: The aim of this study was to have a linguistic validation of the Sleep Disturbance Scale for Children (SDSC) in Iranian children with Persian language.

Methods: The study included a randomly selected sample of children, aged 6-15 years, from three primary and secondary schools located in Isfahan City, Iran. Following the forward-backward translation method, parents completed the SDSC as well as the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL).

Adipose Tissue Derived Multipotent Mesenchymal Stromal Cells Can Be Isolated Using Serum-free Media.

Background: Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) as multipotent cells with the capacity to be differentiated into several cell lineages are promising sources for cell therapy and tissue engineering nowadays. Today most of culturing media are supplemented with fetal bovine serum (FBS). But FBS containing culturing media may raise the possibility of zoonotic infections and immunological reactions in cell therapy conditions.

Type D personality is associated with hyperlipidemia in patients with myocardial infarction.

Objective: There are many studies indicating the role of psychological factors in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disorders. Type D as a new personality construct has been proposed by Denollet, characterized by the joint global traits including negative affectivity and social inhibition. The purpose of this study was to examine the link between type D personality and hyperlipidemia in patients with myocardial infarction (MI).

Epidemiological Study of Youth Mental Health Using Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ).

Background: Prevention and treatment of youths` mental disorders are important, not just for to diminish their present problems but to improve their functions in adulthood. This study was performed to evaluate the mental health status of 6-18 years old youths in a community-based sample using the strength and difficulties questionnaire (SDQ).

Methods: Parent of 2000 youths (6-18 years old) were selected from 250 clusters from different municipality areas of Isfahan, Iran and they responded to extended version of SDQ parent`s form.

Comparison of iterative angular spectrum and optimal rotation angle methods in designing beam-fanners.

We compare the iterative angular spectrum (IAS) and the optimal rotation angle (ORA) methods in designing two-dimensional finite aperture diffractive optical elements (FADOEs) used as beamfanners. The transfer functions of both methods are compared analytically in the spatial frequency domain. We have designed several structures of 1-to-4 and 1-to-6 beamfanners to investigate the differences in the performance of the beamfanners designed by ORA method for near field operation.

Post-traumatic stress disorder in children witnessing a public hanging in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

A study was made of post-traumatic stress disorder in 200 children aged 7-11 years who had witnessed a public hanging next to their school in Isfahan, Islamic Republic of Iran. A standard checklist was completed through interviews with the children's parents 3 months after the event. Post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms were identified in 104 children (52%), with 88 suffering re-experiences, 24 avoidance and 62 hyperarousal.

Effect of stress management training on glycemic control in patients with type 1 diabetes.

Aims: In this study, the effect of stress management training on glycemic control has been investigated in type 1 diabetic patients.

Methods: The participants were 60 type 1 diabetic patients (aged 16-30). 30 Subjects attended in 3-month stress management training classes during which the prescribed insulin remained constant, but the remainder 30 ones did not.

Hereditary risk factors for the development of gastric cancer in younger patients.

Background: It is believed that the development of gastric cancer (GC) before the age of 50 has a hereditary basis. Blood group A and history of gastric cancer in first-degree relatives have been shown to be risk factors for GC.

Methods: In this case-control study, we enrolled patients with GC who were diagnosed before the age of 50.

Preoperative bile salt administration versus bile refeeding in obstructive jaundice.

Background: Endotoxaemia due to intraluminal bile salt depletion may be a cause of renal failure in patients with obstructive jaundice. Administration of bile salts to these patients has been reported to decrease portal and systemic endotoxaemia during surgery and improve renal function. However, such changes have not been shown with bile refeeding.

White muscle differentiation in the eel (Anguilla anguilla L.): changes in the myosin isoforms pattern and ATPase profile during post-metamorphic development.

Myosin isoforms and their light and heavy chains subunits were studied in the white lateral muscle of the eel during the post metamorphic development, in relation with the myosin ATPase profile. At elver stage VI A1 the myosin isoforms pattern was characterized by at least two isoforms, FM3 and FM2. The fast isomyosin type 1 (FM1) appeared during subsequent development.

Alpha-adrenoceptor properties in rat strains sensitive or resistant to salt-induced hypertension.

Cerebral and renal alpha 2-adrenoceptors are implicated in the control of sympathetic activity and of sodium reabsorption respectively. In addition, sodium ions play an important role in the regulation of either alpha 2-adrenoceptor densities and affinities for adrenergic agonists. In the present study, alpha-adrenoceptor properties were investigated in genetically predetermined salt-sensitive and salt-resistant Dahl and Sabra rats.

Alpha-adrenoceptors in Dahl hypertensive and normotensive rats: effect of sodium.

Sodium ions play an important role in vitro and in vivo in the regulation of alpha 2-adrenoceptors. The in vitro effect of sodium on cerebral and renal alpha-adrenoceptors was investigated in Dahl salt-sensitive and salt-resistant rats. Cerebral alpha 2-adrenoceptor densities were higher in Dahl salt-resistant rats.
