Nine-year survival after intertrochanteric fracture in elderly with chronic kidney disease.

The outcome of this study was to identify 9-year survivors of intertrochanteric fracture at each stage of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and to investigate the risk factors associated with mortality following surgery with proximal femoral nail anti-rotation (PFNA). 443 elderly intertrochanteric fractures underwent PFNA fixation were recruited. Mortality rate was identified until 9 years.

Background: Intertrochanteric fracture is one of the most burdensome osteoporotic fractures in the elderly. Chronic kidney disease is associated with sarcopenia, especially in its advanced stages and, thus may impact functional status. Combining an intertrochanteric fracture with advanced CKD may diminish results after surgical fixation.

Effectiveness of Periarticular Injection After Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty for Displaced Femoral Neck Fracture in Elderly Patients: A Double Blinded Randomized, Controlled Study.

Background: Bipolar hemiarthroplasty is a standard treatment for displaced femoral neck fracture in elderly with a normal acetabulum. Several studies have shown controversial results regarding postoperative visual analogue scale, opioid consumption, and the effectiveness of periarticular injection in hip arthroplasty. The purpose of this study is going to identify the effectiveness of periarticular injection after bipolar hemiarthroplasty compared with the patients treated with conventional pain control.

Tutoring Trainees to Suture: An Alternative Method for Learning How to Suture and a Way to Compensate for a Lack of Suturing Cases.

Introduction: Tutoring in suturing was developed to compensate for a shortage of suturing cases. The objective of this study was to compare ideal suturing score (ISS; 9 points), suturing time (min:sec), and suture placement error (mm) between medical students completing the suturing tutoring program and medical students attending ordinary medical school training program.

Methods: Participants consisted of 2 groups of medical students who had never performed suturing.
