Growing evidence supports sleep-wake disruption as a mechanism involved in mood disorders pathogenesis. Duration of depressive episodes varies widely, and longer depressive episodes have been connected to worse outcomes. We aimed to explore if the length of depressive episodes is related to objective modifications of sleep features.

Copper(II) Complexes with Carnosine Conjugates of Hyaluronic Acids at Different Dipeptide Loading Percentages Behave as Multiple SOD Mimics and Stimulate Nrf2 Translocation and Antioxidant Response in In Vitro Inflammatory Model.

A series of copper(II) complexes with the formula [CuHy()Car%] varying the molecular weight (MW) of Hyaluronic acid (Hy, = 200 or 700 kDa) conjugated with carnosine (Car) present at different loading were synthesized and characterized via different spectroscopic techniques. The metal complexes behaved as Cu, Zn-superoxide dismutase (SOD1) mimics and showed some of the most efficient reaction rate values produced using a synthetic and water-soluble copper(II)-based SOD mimic reported to date. The increase in the percentage of Car moieties parallels the enhancement of the I value determined via the indirect method of Fridovich.

Sleep changes during a spontaneous manic episode: PSG assessment in a clinical context.

Sleep plays a key role in the pathogenesis and clinical presentation of mood disorders. However, only a few studies have investigated sleep architecture during the manic episodes of Bipolar Disorder (BD) and changes in sleep parameters that follow clinical variations. Twenty-one patients (8 males, 13 females) affected by BD, manic phase, underwent polysomnographic recordings (PSG) at the beginning of the admission in our ward (T) and after three weeks of hospital treatment (T).

Genetics of nonpharmacological treatments of depression.

Nonpharmacological antidepressant treatments are effective and well tolerated in selected patients. However, response is heterogeneous and validated biomarkers would be precious to aid treatment choice. We searched Pubmed, Scopus, and Google Scholar until May 2022 for original articles evaluating the association of genetic variables with the efficacy of nonpharmacological treatments for major depressive episodes.

Thus, such heritage may allow for appropriate prescription studies to be carried out on complex pharmaceutical molecules, as the appropriateness of prescriptions is essential both for patients' treatment and to ensure healthcare systems' sustainability.

Sleep architecture modifications after double chronotherapy: A case series of bipolar depressed inpatients.

The aim of this study is to objectively evaluate sleep architecture changes of depressed bipolar subjects treated with chronoterapeutics. Eleven depressed bipolar inpatients received 3 cycles of Total Sleep Deprivation, followed by daily light therapy sessions for one week. Polysomnography was performed before and after the treatment.
