Introduction: Testicular germ cell cancer has a relatively good prognosis even if visceral and/or lymph node metastases are present thanks to chemotherapy. Rationale: Adrenal myelolipoma is a benign hormone-inactive tumor composed of hematopoietic tissue and mature adipose tissue. Because this tumor tends to be rich in fat, in many cases it can be diagnosed based on computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings alone. However, in the presence of much necrosis, calcification and hematopoietic tissue and/or the absence of much fat, and in cases with tumor apoplexy, this tumor becomes difficult to differentiate from other tumors.

Clinical Value of 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography in Upper Tract Urothelial Carcinoma: Impact on Detection of Metastases and Patient Management.

Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for detecting metastasis and its impact on patient management with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC).

Patients And Methods: Consecutive patients with UTUC underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT after CT for initial staging (n = 47) and for restaging at recurrence (n = 9). Diagnostic accuracy for detecting metastases with PET/CT and CT was compared statistically.

Long-term oncological outcome in men with T3 prostate cancer: radical prostatectomy versus external-beam radiation therapy at a single institution.

Background: This study was designed to compare the long-term oncological outcome of patients with clinical T3 (cT3) prostate cancer (PCA) treated with either radical prostatectomy (RP) or external-beam radiation therapy (EBRT) and to identify predictors of oncological outcomes.

Methods: A total of 231 patients with cT3 PCA underwent either RP (n = 112) or EBRT (n = 119). Local progression-free (LPFS), distant metastasis-free (DMFS), cancer-specific (CSS), and overall survival curves were generated with the Kaplan-Meier method, and the differences in survival rates between the two groups were assessed with a log-rank test.

Carcinoma showing thymus-like differentiation (CASTLE) is a rare tumor of the thyroid gland or soft tissues of the head and neck. To our knowledge, there have been only a few reports concerning imaging findings of CASTLE. We report herein the sonographic appearances of three cases of CASTLE.

The present case is the first report of a systemic lupus erythematosus patient which has been induced Parkinsonism with the administration of tacrolimus (TAC). A 50-year-old woman was diagnosed as lupus nephritis on September 2003. The patient had been prescribed initially 40 mg/day of prednisolone, then cyclosporine was added on May 2005.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of an adolescent epiglottis.

Laryngeal mucoepidermoid carcinoma is rare and extremely rare in adolescents. We present the case of a 17-year-old girl. Magnetic resonance imaging clearly depicted the tumor, and histopathological study of the surgical specimen confirmed the diagnosis of mucoepidermoid carcinoma.

Effects of hydrogen in working gas on valence States of oxygen in sputter-deposited indium tin oxide thin films.

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy-elastic recoil detection analysis (RBS-ERDA) revealed that hydrogen in working gas for dc-plasma sputter deposition resided in indium tin oxide (ITO) films and generated the O(-) state seen as the suboxide-like O 1s peak in XPS. Growth of the suboxide-like O 1s peak was parallel with an increase of the resided hydrogen quantified by RBS-ERDA. The first-principles band structure calculation revealed that the electronic structure of In(2)O(3) crystal was realized typically for the most conductive as-deposited film grown in the gas containing hydrogen of 1%.

Three cases of angiomyolipoma: diagnostic imaging by contrast-enhanced ultrasonography.

We used contrast-enhanced ultrasound using the Sonazoid microbubble contrast agent to diagnose three cases of hepatic angiomyolipoma, which is a rare benign tumor. Some characteristic findings are obtained in the early vascular phase, for example fork-like tumor vessels. However, a variety of findings are seen after the early vascular phase because of microbubbles circulating the vascular enriched tumor.

Malignant mucosal melanoma of the eustachian tube.

Malignant mucosal melanoma is a rare condition. Although the head and neck region is the most common site for mucosal melanoma, a melanoma arising in the eustachian tube is rare. Here we present a case of mucosal melanoma arising in the right eustachian tube.

Preferred crystal orientation of sol-gel-derived Bi4-xLaxTi3O12 thin films on silicon substrates.

Polycrystalline thin films of La-substituted bismuth titanate (BLT) were formed directly on p-type Si(100) substrates by using sol-gel and spin coat methods. The BLT film and interfacial layer between BLT and Si were quantitatively investigated by the X-ray reflectivity method. Also, crystal orientations of sub-100-nm-thick BLT thin films were confirmed by X-ray diffraction using a synchrotron radiation source.

Materials And Methods: 15 extracted human premolars were prepared for complete crowns and the electrical resistance of their coronal dentin was measured. The prepared teeth were then randomly divided into three groups, and the prepared dentin surface of five teeth in each group was coated using one of three adhesive resin systems (All-Bond 2, Clearfil Liner Bond II, Super-Bond D-Liner) with low viscosity resins.
