Bile salts, present in the gastrointestinal tract as biosurfactants, play a crucial role in emulsifying and solubilizing fat-soluble nutrients and drugs, thereby facilitating their absorption. However, the cellular permeation of bile acid-mixed micelles solubilized with lipophilic substances remains inadequately explored. To comprehend the cell permeation behavior of bile salts and their mixed micelles, giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) were employed as a cell-mimetic system, prepared with dioleylphosphatidylcholine (DOPC).

We report on the synergic effect of surfactants and chelating agents on the mechanism to remove stubborn keratin grime (keratin-Ca), which is bound with calcium ions and one of the most difficult grimes to remove, in order to make it easier to clean bathtubs in less time and with less scrubbing. Our approach was to focus on keratin swelling, which we achieved by applying aqueous solutions with chelating agents and anionic surfactants, the combination of which greatly improved the swelling ratio, resulting in quick, easy removal of keratin-Ca with water rinsing and little scrubbing. For the swelling process, we added chelating agents and anionic surfactants to swell the keratin-Ca by both capturing calcium ions and improving solution permeation.

α-Sulfonated fatty acid methyl ester salts (MES), which were made from vegetable sources, are attractive candidates for eco-friendly washing detergents because they have various special features like excellent detergency, favorable biodegradability, and high stability against enzymes. To overcome some disadvantages of powder-type detergents like caking, sorting, and dusting, we studied how temperature and humidity history, as a model for long-term storage conditions, can affect crystalline structures and reduce the brittleness of MES powder. We characterized the crystalline structure of MES grains using small-angle X-ray scattering, wide-angle X-ray scattering, differential scanning calorimetry, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy measurements and determined the yield values, which measure the brittleness of MES grains, in shear stress using dynamic viscoelasticity measurements.

Treatment of β-fluoroalkylated-α,β-unsaturated ketones with 1.2 equiv. of various arylboronic acids in the presence of 5 mol% of [Rh(COD)(2)]BF(4) and 6 mol% of (S)-BINAP in toluene/H(2)O (v/v = 4/1) at the reflux temperature for 3 h gave the corresponding Michael adducts in high yields with over 90% enantioselectivity.

On treatment of various fluorinated internal alkynes with 1.2 equiv of hexabutylditin under the influence of 2.5 mol % of Pd(t-BuNC)(2)Cl(2) in THF at room temperature for 4 h, the bisstannylation proceeded smoothly to afford the corresponding bisstannylated cis-adducts in high yields.
