Dose evaluation of intravenous metamizole (dipyrone) in infants and children: a prospective population pharmacokinetic study.

Purpose: The prodrug metamizole is prescribed intravenously for postoperative pain in children, including off-label use in infants < 1 year. We aimed to assess the pharmacokinetics of the main metabolites of metamizole in children aged 3-72 months.

Methods: A single dose of 10 mg/kg metamizole was administered intravenously for postoperative analgesia.

We assessed small nerve fibre degeneration and regeneration in more and less affected sides in Parkinson's disease (PD). Bilateral skin biopsies from 23 PD patients were immunostained for PGP9.5 for Intraepidermal Nerve Fibre Density (IENFD) and GAP-43 for mean axonal length (MAL), total epidermal (TNFL) and subepidermal nerve fibre length (SKTNFL).

Habitat partitioning in Antarctic krill: Spawning hotspots and nursery areas.

Antarctic krill, Euphausia superba, have a circumpolar distribution but are concentrated within the south-west Atlantic sector, where they support a unique food web and a commercial fishery. Within this sector, our first goal was to produce quantitative distribution maps of all six ontogenetic life stages of krill (eggs, nauplii plus metanauplii, calyptopes, furcilia, juveniles, and adults), based on a compilation of all available post 1970s data. Using these maps, we then examined firstly whether "hotspots" of egg production and early stage nursery occurred, and secondly whether the available habitat was partitioned between the successive life stages during the austral summer and autumn, when krill densities can be high.

The vertical migration of zooplankton and micronekton (hereafter 'zooplankton') has ramifications throughout the food web. Here, we present the first evidence that climate fluctuations affect the vertical migration of zooplankton in the Southern Ocean, based on multi-year acoustic backscatter data from one of the deep troughs in the Amundsen Sea, Antarctica. High net primary productivity (NPP) and the annual variation in seasonal ice cover make the Amundsen Sea coastal polynya an ideal site in which to examine how zooplankton behavior responds to climate fluctuations.

Reflecting international patterns, Aboriginal people in Victoria are more likely to gamble and to experience gambling harm than non-Indigenous Victorians. This paper describes experiences of gambling reported by 50 Aboriginal people interviewed in regional Victoria in 2016 and 2017 as part of studies initiated by two Aboriginal community-controlled organisations. Data were analysed using social practice theory (SPT) and coded to the elements of 'meaning', 'material', 'competence', and 'temporality'.
