Objective: Current guidelines recommend the use of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (GpIIb/IIIa) inhibitors in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) only as a bail-out therapy. However, drug penetration to the jeopardised area may not be achieved due to impeded blood flow and increased microvascular resistance. Aim of our study is to investigate the impact of distal intracoronary GpIIb/IIIa inhibitor agent infusion in STEMI patients.

Background: Delayed gastric emptying (DGE) is one of the most common reasons for morbidity after pancreatoduodenectomy. The technical characteristics of anastomosis that could be affected by surgeon may offer a relevant chance to improve postoperative DGE rates. We investigated the effect of a technical modification of gastrojejunostomy after the classical pancreaticoduodenectomy on DGE.

  • Glomerular hyperfiltration (GHF) is identified as an early indicator of chronic kidney disease that could also signal coronary issues in women with a history of gestational diabetes (GDM).
  • The study involved 166 patients with GDM, categorizing them by their glomerular filtration rate (GFR) into three groups, and measuring their coronary flow velocity reserve (CFVR) before and after a stress test using dipyridamole.
  • Results indicated that women with lower GFR had the lowest CFVR, emphasizing the link between metabolic health markers (like HbA1c and HOMA-IR) and cardiovascular risks, suggesting that improving these factors may help prevent heart disease.

Kawasaki disease (KD) manifests as an acute febrile condition and systemic vasculitis, the etiology of which remains elusive. Primarily affecting children under 5 years of age, if untreated KD can lead to a significant risk of coronary artery aneurysms and subsequent long-term cardiovascular sequelae, including myocardial ischemia and myocardial infarction. Intravenous immunoglobulin therapy mitigates the risk of aneurysm formation, but a subset of patients exhibit resistance to this treatment, increasing the susceptibility of coronary artery lesions.

Patients on double antiplatelet treatment who need early in-hospital coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) are at high risk of major bleeding. In this study, we aimed to investigate the impact of ticagrelor preloading on CABG related bleeding in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) initially managed with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI). Patients with the diagnosis of STEMI who were managed with pPCI and underwent subsequent early (4-7 days following pPCI) or delayed (> 7 days following pPCI) on-pump CABG surgery were included.

In humans, blood Classical CD14 monocytes contribute to host defense by secreting large amounts of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Their aberrant activity causes hyper-inflammation and life-threatening cytokine storms, while dysfunctional monocytes are associated with 'immunoparalysis', a state of immune hypo responsiveness and reduced pro-inflammatory gene expression, predisposing individuals to opportunistic infections. Understanding how monocyte functions are regulated is critical to prevent these harmful outcomes.

Unlabelled: Alterations in the intestinal microbiota contribute to the pathogenesis of various cardiovascular disorders, but how they affect the development of Kawasaki disease (KD), an acute pediatric vasculitis, remains unclear. We report that depleting the gut microbiota reduces the development of cardiovascular inflammation in a murine model mimicking KD vasculitis. The development of cardiovascular lesions was associated with alterations in the intestinal microbiota composition and, notably, a decreased abundance of and Oral supplementation with either of these live or pasteurized individual bacteria, or with short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) produced by them, attenuated cardiovascular inflammation.

Background: The use of high-sensitivity troponin levels increases the sensitivity of the diagnosis of non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). However, the inclusion of other factors in the differential diagnosis, apart from atherothrombosis causing myocardial injury, decreases the specificity of high-sensitivity troponin. In this study, we compared the efficacy of high-sensitivity troponin with serum oncostatin M in NSTEMI cases with elevated urea and creatinine.
