Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates histone variant distribution in maize root and callus cultures during differentiation, dedifferentiation, and hormone treatment.
  • The researchers analyze histone variant ratios across different developmental zones and assess how treatment with auxin and gibberellin affects these ratios.
  • Results indicate significant alterations in histone variant ratios, suggesting a correlation with plant cell differentiation and physiological status.

Although several linker histone variants have been studied in both animal and plant organisms, little is known about their distribution during processes that involve alterations in chromatin function, such as differentiation, dedifferentiation and hormone treatment. In this study, we identified linker histone variants by using specific anti-histone Hl antibodies. Each variant's ratio to total Hl in the three developmental zones of maize (Zea mays L.

Although histone ubiquitination is known to associate with various chromatin functions, the precise role and mechanism of this modification remains still unknown. In this study, we identified the ubiquitinated form of H2A and estimated its ratio to total H2A in each of the three developmental zones of maize (Zea mays L.) root and in callus cultures derived from them, in order to define possible alterations, either during plant cell differentiation or during their dedifferentiation.
