Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the effectiveness of adenotonsillectomy (ATE) versus watchful waiting in children with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS), examining their clinical outcomes through a meta-analysis of various trials.
  • The results show ATE leads to significant improvements in the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and quality of life (measured by OSA-18 scores), but no noticeable difference was found in oxygen saturation levels (SpO2) between the two treatment options.
  • Subgroup analysis also indicated ATE is particularly beneficial for mild OSAS cases, showcasing significant improvements compared to watchful waiting.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explores the link between vitamin D deficiency and recurrent tonsillopharyngitis by reviewing data from 11 observational studies involving over 2,500 participants.
  • The findings suggest a possible connection, with most studies indicating a statistically significant relationship between low vitamin D levels and increased occurrences of tonsillopharyngitis.
  • While the quality of the included studies was generally moderate to good, the authors recommend further research into the preventive effects of vitamin D supplementation on this condition.
