Retrospective Evaluation of Intravenous Enoxaparin Administration in Feline Arterial Thromboembolism.

Induction of a hypocoagulable state is imperative in the treatment of feline arterial thromboembolism. Publications in human medicine report the use of enoxaparin intravenously in selected cases. The aim of our retrospective study was to report the regain of perfusion, short-term outcome, and complications of cats treated with a novel intravenous enoxaparin protocol (1 mg/kg bolus injection followed by 3 mg/kg/day continuous infusion) combined with oral clopidogrel administration.

Comparison of Hydrocortisone Continuous Rate Infusion and Prednisolone or Dexamethasone Administration for Treatment of Acute Hypoadrenocortical (Addisonian) Crisis in Dogs.

Objectives: To determine whether administration of intravenous hydrocortisone is a safe and effective alternative treatment in comparison to the traditional treatment with prednisolone/dexamethasone in dogs presenting with Addisonian crisis; and to assess if there is any advantage of the former over the latter in normalisation of electrolyte imbalances and in hospitalisation length in these dogs.

Methods: Medical records of client-owned dogs with hypoadrenocorticism were retrospectively reviewed. Time until normalisation of sodium and potassium concentration, intravenous fluid needs over the first 24 h and hospitalisation length were compared between hydrocortisone and prednisolone/dexamethasone treated dogs.

In vitro evaluation of potential interference of lokivetmab with protein electrophoresis and immunofixation.

Objective: In humans, misdiagnoses of monoclonal gammopathy after use of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies has been documented. This triggers concerns for similar misdiagnoses in animals treated with monoclonal antibodies. The aim of this study was to evaluate if lokivetmab interferes with serum protein electrophoresis and immunofixation electrophoresis in dogs.

Life-Threatening Mediastinal Hematoma Formation After Removal of the Hemodialysis Catheter in a Boxer: A Case Report.

A 4-year-old female Boxer was referred for renal replacement therapy 2 days after observed grape ingestion. An 11-French dual-lumen dialysis catheter was placed into the right jugular vein and continuous renal replacement therapy was initiated for 66 h. Afterwards the patient received enoxaparin subcutaneously as a thromboprophylaxis.

Update on therapy and prevention of canine leishmaniasis.

Canine leishmaniasis is an emerging infection with increasing importance because the main vector also exists in Germany and autochthonous infections have been described. In this article we present the latest information available regarding therapy and prevention of this disease. Allopurinol-resistant strains were isolated from dogs which experienced recurrent disease while being treated with allopurinol, highlighting the need for alternative treatment options.
