Clinical studies investigating the benefits of beta-lactam therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) among critically ill patients are hindered by small patient groups, variability between studies, patient heterogeneity, and inadequate use of TDM. Accordingly, definitive conclusions regarding the efficacy of TDM remain elusive. To address these challenges, we propose an innovative approach that leverages data-driven methods to unveil the concealed connections between therapy effectiveness and patient data, collected through a randomized controlled trial (DRKS00011159; 10th October 2016).

High-risk pregnancies not only heighten concerns about the baby's health but also have the potential to impact the mother-infant relationship by shifting the mother's focus towards her own health needs. This study aims to delve into the intricacies of motherhood roles among women experiencing high-risk pregnancies compared to those with uncomplicated pregnancies, aiming to shed light on the disparities between the two groups. The participants of this descriptive, comparative, and correlational study consisted of literate mothers admitted to a hospital in Eastern Turkey, diagnosed with high-risk pregnancies, and with no prior history of psychological support.

Objectives: Gingival pigmentation, the most common etiological factor of which is smoking, is a clinical condition that causes aesthetic complaints. Due to the dose-dependent effect of smoking, gingival pigmentation may present regression following cessation. This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate gingival pigmentation in former tobacco consumers and compare with current ones.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study aimed to identify factors affecting disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), as previous research in this area has been limited.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 257 patients, finding that 51% had persistent/recurrent disease while 49% had no evidence of disease at follow-up, with various factors like age, metastasis, and initial response influencing DFS outcomes.
  • - The key finding was that the lack of an excellent response after initial treatment is the strongest predictor of worse DFS, highlighting the need for diligent follow-up even in patients who initially respond well.

The authors investigated the value of novel inflammatory markers, systemic immune-inflammation index and C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR), to predict in-hospital mortality in patients with non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). A total of 308 patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention because of NSTEMI were retrospectively included in the study. Killip classification, Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction score, SYNTAX score, and CAR and systemic immune-inflammation index values were calculated.

Background Thyroid cancer is one of the five most common cancers causing bone metastasis. If there is an increase in serum thyroglobulin-antithyroglobulin levels in differentiated thyroid cancer or calcitonin levels in medullary thyroid cancer, patients should be evaluated for recurrence and distant metastasis. The skeleton is the second most common site of distant metastasis in thyroid cancer after the lung.

Problem: This study aims to investigate the role of the systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII) in inflammation by analyzing SII values by trimester in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Method Of Study: Between May 2019 and June 2020, we retrospectively enrolled 467 pregnant women who were followed from the first trimester to delivery in our hospital. We evaluated the sociodemographic characteristics, laboratory test results, SII values, Apgar scores, and newborn birth weights of pregnant women diagnosed with GDM.

Predictive maintenance is considered a proactive approach that capitalizes on advanced sensing technologies and data analytics to anticipate potential equipment malfunctions, enabling cost savings and improved operational efficiency. For journal bearings, predictive maintenance assumes critical significance due to the inherent complexity and vital role of these components in mechanical systems. The primary objective of this study is to develop a data-driven methodology for indirectly determining the wear condition by leveraging experimentally collected vibration data.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to determine the impact of the antiangiogenic medications, namely, aflibercept and cabergoline in the prevention and treatment of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in a rat model.

Methods: A total of 36 female Wistar rats were randomly allocated to one of the five groups, including disease-free and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome controls: Group no OHSS (control, n=6) received saline only intraperitoneally (i.p.

The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to quantify the effect of random start ovarian stimulation (RSOS) compared with conventional start ovarian stimulation (CSOS) in cancer patients before gonadotoxic treatment. The final analytical cohort encompassed 688 RSOS and 1076 CSOS cycles of cancer patients before gonadotoxic treatment. Eleven studies were identified by database searches of MEDLINE, Cochrane Library and cited references.

Background: Despite improvements in technology and surgical techniques, abdominal injuries caused by firearms in children are traumatic with high complication rates and mortality. In this study, factors affecting mortality and complications in penetrating abdominal firearm injuries caused by high-velocity bullets and shrapnel in children as a result of the civil war in Syria were evaluated.

Methods: This study was conducted as a case series with 53 patients admitted to Kilis State Hospital with penetrating abdominal firearm injuries between January 2016 and February 2017.

Purpose: Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) has a pulsatile and circadian rhythm in healthy individuals. We aimed to evaluate the diurnal changes of free thyroid hormones and serum TSH levels in patients with end-stage renal failure (ESRF) whose thyroidal functions are at normal ranges.

Methods: Thirty hemodialysis patients with chronic renal failure and without a known thyroidal disease who are over 18 and 35 healthy individuals were included.

Otolith features such as size and weight were analysed in 656 fish specimens of Chelon auratus, Chelon labrosus, Chelon saliens and Mugil cephalus collected from the Köyceğiz Lagoon System, Aegean Sea, southwest Turkey. The aim was to calculate the asymmetry value of the otolith length (OL), otolith width (OW) and otolith weight (OWe). The asymmetry value of OL was greater than that of OW and OWe.

Hypothesis: During the evaporation of urea water solution (UWS), the wall temperature and surface properties influence the dynamics of deposit formation by affecting the internal mass transport. These effects are expected to be reflected in the resulting deposit morphology and allow different deposit regimes to be distinguished.

Experiments: The temperature of metallic substrates is varied for three different surface treatments to analyze the wetting, evaporation behavior and the crystallization process of single UWS droplets in situ using a high-speed camera.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on understanding the caregiver burden experienced by individuals caring for patients with chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) and assesses any resulting loss of workdays.
  • A total of 252 COPD patients and their caregivers were surveyed, with questions covering socio-demographics, patient condition, and caregiver challenges, including a specific scale to measure caregiver burden.
  • Results indicated that caregivers often faced increased workloads and had a higher risk of missing work, especially when patients had more severe symptoms and additional health complications; addressing this burden through support systems for caregivers is suggested.

Background: The insulin-like growth factor (IGF) signaling pathway has an important role in many cancers, including esophageal cancer (EC). IGF-binding protein 7 (IGFBP7) is one of the proteins in this signaling pathway, and its role in cancer has not yet been fully clarified. In the present study, we evaluated the clinical relevance of IGFBP7 methylation status and mRNA expression in EC patients compared to healthy controls.
