Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a global health issue associated with increased cardiovascular disease risk. Endothelial dysfunction is a known precursor to atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease, and its role in the pathogenesis of DM complications is well-documented. There is limited information in the evaluation of endothelial function in prediabetic patients using flow-mediated dilation (FMD), and studies have not excluded patients with known atherosclerosis or coronary artery disease.

Background: Data on the factors that trigger repetitive nonreentrant ventriculoatrial synchrony (RNRVAS) are limited. We hypothesize that loss of atrial capture may trigger RNRVAS. We aimed to use an atrial threshold test to observe the development of RNRVAS upon loss of atrial capture in patients with implantable cardiac electronic devices (CIED).

Inhibition of IRE1α endonuclease leads to decreased splice XBP1 which decreases cell proliferation and increases cell death in cancer cells. Therefore, this study investigated the effects and mechanism of STF-083010 (an IRE1α inhibitor) on the cell growth/apoptosis of ovarian malignant cells via the XBP1-CHOP-Bim pathway following the induction of ER stress (ERS).

Diverse functionalized N-methyl-3-nitro-4H-pyrimido [2, 1-b] [1, 3] benzothiazole-2-amine derivatives were obtained with excellent yields under neat conditions. The one-pot annulation was shown to be valid for the synthesis of highly functionalized derivatives of N-methyl-3-nitro-4H-pyrimido [2, 1-b] [1, 3] benzothiazole-2-amine from readily accessible substrates.

The photosensitizers employed in the reactions include 9,10-dicyanoanthracene (DCA), 1,4-dicyanonaphthalene (DCN), rose bengal (RB) and fullerene C. The results show that photoirradiation of oxygenated solutions containing the photosensitizers, glycinates and dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate leads to competitive formation of pyrroles and β-enamino-esters.

In this study, we aimed to compare open and laparoscopic modified Lich-Gregoir ureteral reimplantation with regards to outcomes in benign ureteral pathologies in adult patients.
Methods: Between December 2008 and December 2014, 32 open cases and 29 laparoscopic cases were performed as per the data retrieved from surgical databases.
Objectives: Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is a method used frequently for the treatment of renal stone disease. Although its safety is proven, there are still concerns about its unwanted effects on kidneys. In this prospective study, we aimed to evaluate renal tissue alterations with shear wave elastography (SWE) after ESWL.

Methods: A series of 42 patients presenting with obstructive pyelonephritis due to proximal ureteral stones larger than 1.5 cm were included from April 2006 to February 2015 in this comparative study.
Objectives: Paraoxonase-1 (PON1) is a high-density lipoprotein-associated enzyme implicated in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis by protecting lipoproteins against peroxidation. PON1 has two genetic polymorphisms both due to amino acid substitution, one involving glutamine and arginine at position 192 and the other leucine and methionine at position 55. Recent reports suggest that nephrolithiasis and atherosclerosis share a number of risk factors.

Methods: From January 1, 2008, through November 30, 2012, 107 cases treated with LESS were identified, including pyeloplasty (n = 30), ureterolithotomy (n = 32), nephrectomy (n = 35; simple = 31, partial = 4), and cyst decortication (n = 10). Perioperative data were reviewed, and conversion and complication rates were noted.
Background And Objectives: Our objective is to clarify the effect of previous transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) or open prostatectomy (OP) on surgical, oncological, and functional outcomes after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP).
Methods: Between August 1, 2009, and March 31, 2013, 380 patients underwent RARP. Of these, 25 patients had undergone surgery for primary bladder outlet obstruction (TURP, 20 patients; OP, 5 patents) (group 1).
Objective: To investigate the urinary interferon gamma-induced protein 10 (IP-10), monocyte chemotactic protein 1 (MCP-1), neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), cystatin-C, and kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) levels in the management of children with prenatally diagnosed unilateral hydronephrosis.
Materials And Methods: Twenty-seven children with antenatally diagnosed hydronephrosis were enrolled into the study. The controls consisted of 9 healthy children (6 boys, 3 girls; mean age: 41.
Objectives: Vitamin D insufficiency has been shown to be associated with cardiac dysfunctions, such as cardiac hypertrophy and hypertension, in animal studies. Arterial stiffness is a prognostic marker for cardiovascular disease. Previous studies have demonstrated that 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels were negatively correlated with arterial stiffness index.
