Objective: Diabetic nephropathy is a prevalent cause of chronic kidney disease worldwide. Magnesium plays a critical role in insulin resistance, and insulin, in turn, regulates magnesium levels. We aimed to investigate the association between hypomagnesemia and albuminuria in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Hypermagnesemia is one of the vital electrolyte disturbances and is associated with such chronic conditions as cardiovascular, endocrinologic, renal diseases, and malignancy.
Aim: This study evaluates the association between hypermagnesemia and clinical course in hospitalized patients.
Methods: This study was conducted at the University of Health Sciences Haseki Training and Research Hospital Internal Medicine Clinic.
Purpose: Internal medicine services serve the patient population with many chronic diseases. Therefore, it is high mortality rates compared to other departments of the hospital. Estimating the prognostic risk of hospitalized patients may be useful in mortality for patients.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of the age-adjusted CCI score and biochemical parameters for predicting outcomes for COVID-19 patients on admission.
Patients And Methods: A total of 511 patients were included in the study.
Background: Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) is the common and valid method to predict mortality by classifying comorbidities such as cardiovascular, metabolic, renal, hepatic, pulmonary diseases, and malignancy. Novel risk factors are not included in the Charlson Comorbidity Index, such as thyroid hormone index (FT3/FT4 ratio) and serum albumin levels. In the present study, we aimed to assess whether the thyroid hormone index and albumin are useful clinical parameters in short and long-term mortality.

We aimed to evaluate the power and effectiveness of the free triiodothyronine (FT3)-to-free thyroxine (FT4) ratio to predict non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)/liver fibrosis and NASH cirrhosis severity.
Methods: Patients (n = 436) with NASH-associated liver cirrhosis (n = 68), patients with liver biopsy-proven NAFLD (n = 226), or healthy participants (n = 142) were enrolled between January 2010 and January 2020.
Background: Bruxism is a parafunctional habit, usually performed in sleep, by rhythmic and involuntary teeth being squeezed or squeaked. The most common methods of treatment are the use of occlusal splints.
Aims: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of occlusal splinting with botulinum toxin administration in the treatment of TMJ pain.
Background: This study aimed to compare the pain levels during anesthesia and the efficacy of the QuickSleeper intraosseous (IO) injection system and conventional inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) in impacted mandibular third molar surgery.
Methods: This prospective randomized clinical trial included 30 patients (16 women, 14 men) with bilateral symmetrical impacted mandibular third molars. Thirty subjects randomly received either the IO injection or conventional IANB at two successive appointments.
Objectives: We performed a randomized clinical study evaluating the stability of implants with different surfaces (alkali-modified or sandblasted) via resonance frequency analysis (RFA).
Materials And Methods: Fourteen patients who were bilaterally edentulous in terms of their mandibular molars were enrolled. Implants with alkali-modified (bioactive) and sandblasted surfaces were randomly placed in either hemi-arch; the 50 implants used were identical in terms of diameter and length.
Objectives: Nonalcoholic fatty pancreas disease (NAFPD) is characterized by excessive fat deposition in the pancreas in the absence of alcohol consumption. In this study, we aimed to detect a possible relationship between adipose tissue accumulation, prediabetes and diabetes.
Methods: This cross-sectional and retrospective study included 110 patients.
Background: Non-thyroidal illness syndrome is characterized by decreased serum free T3 (FT3) level and associates with long term mortality. Serum free T4 (FT4) may affect on mortality with FT3 in course of chronic illness. This study performed to evaluate the association between both decreased FT3 with elevated FT4 levels and mortality risk.

Methods: A total of 1000 teeth treated with nonsurgical root canal therapy were analyzed, and the following information was recorded for each patient: reasons for failure and extraction, type of tooth, presence and type of coronal restoration, smoking status, age, gender, and level of education. One main reason was recorded for each failed tooth.
Aim: To compare dental anxiety and fear during procedures performed under local anesthesia either in the operating room or in the clinic as well as to investigate the potential factors that might influence this psychological condition.
Subjects And Methods: Patients who were admitted to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the universities in two cities, which have a different sociocultural patient profile, were enrolled. In addition to the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS), and Dental Fear Scale (DFS), the patients were asked to answer the questions concerning previous dental experience, education level, and previous psychiatric therapy.
Objective: This study was performed to evaluate the effects of metabolic parameters and thyroid dysfunction on the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Methods: The current study evaluated a total of 115 patients, 75 female and 40 male. Physical examination and anthropometric measurements were applied to all participants.
Background: The aim of the present study was to compare the efficacy of low doses of methylprednisolone, acetaminophen and dexketoprofen trometamol, which are among the drug groups used in our clinic, on postoperative swelling developing after removal of impacted third molar.
Material And Methods: The three group of patients received either 40 mg methylprednisolone or 300 mg acetaminophen or 12.5 mg dexketoprofen trometamol one hour before the procedure, according to the patient groups.
Candida albicans is a polymorphic fungus that may be observed as both commensal and opportunistic pathogen in humans. As one of the major components of Candida cell wall structure, mannan plays an important role in the fungus-host cell interaction and in virulence. The ability to switch from yeast to hypha form of microorganism is crutial in the development of C.
